Hey everytone with Macs using OS 10.3.5 go to the Apple Australia site and go to Support then Downloads and then download the Mac OS X 10.3.6 Combo Update then run Disk Utility (repair permissions)before and after the installation and this fixes everything. I've had LimeWire 4.1.8 running 18 hours now and I still haven't gone over 280mb of ram with my continuous usage. I had my eMac 1.25mhz sticky and slow for 3 weeks now with no way of repairing the problem. Now after the update everything is running great again. Although ram usage is considerable if LimeWire is left on for prolonged periods(i've had ram usage go up to 480mb of real memory and 1.6gb of virtual memory after prolonged usage .

This update goes a long way towards solving the problems Mac users have been having since vs 4.0.4.

You must follow my instructions though and get the full 92mb combo update and not the small 14mb update. Remember to repair permissions in Disk Utility before and after installation.

Happy Days Again

for the VM problem, just turn off all the options in the View Menu when leaving LW unattended. This seems to stop the VM growth.

btw--the combo updater is also available from http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...te_10_3_6.html

cheers

Mac problems

I am going to try what michaelspace suggests. I sure hope it works. I have not been able to run LW for 6-8 months ever since versions updated past 4.04 and who-knows-what in Panther.

Oddly, though, it began working for a few hours the other day and then crapped out again. I don't know if it was before or after I ran the 10.3.6 update but I know I did not run a special australian combo updater. So I will try that and see what happens.

How does it afffect permissions, anyway?

Stief would probably be able to put a bettr answer to that. But you should repair permissions after (& even before) installing any app. I guess in some ways it's a little like repairing desktop in OS9 but more. More often than not, when an app doesn't open properly after installing it's due to permissions needing repair.
