Deleting from Mac OSX

I tried to download limewire and I got cut off. Now I have a file on my desktop that I can't trash. Everytime I move it to the trash I get a message telling me that I can't delete because the file is in use. What can I do?

quit safari (I presume), then the file should be deletable. If not, hold down the option key to empty the trash

force quit the file
