Default LW incredibly slow under OS X 10.3.6

Am working on iMac 20" 1.25GHz 769MB OS X10.3.6. (modem V.92 phone line connection)
I have upgrade to LW 4.2.4, and now LW doesn't want quit ! I must force to quit each time ! Also now, download connection are very very slow, 1 or 2 kb/s maxi and if i try to upload more then one piece, then only one is loading, the others still at 0kb/s most of the time.
I through away the LW preferences, but is no change. Before it was working much faster ( but not that fast ! only 4 / 5 kb/s... no speed connection where I am )
What's happen? What can I do ?

Try updating to the latest version. I believe there was some improvements for mac version.

769 MB of what? The figure doesn't seem to add up. If it's ram then you've calculated incorrectly by the looks.

Try not using the resume function on too many files. It's much more efficient & healthier for LW to do manual searches.

By the way here's some hints: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.
