LimeWire does not connect Hi every one.. this is the first post for me. I am a Mac user, I have G5 1.8 DP, 1.5GB ram, Mac OS X 10.3.7 I installed LimeWire Client 4.2.6 Pro It's keeping connecting but it does not connect. Y...? I have no idea. PLZ I need help 10x |
1. What firewalls you have? 2. Connection type? 3. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 4. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Leave LW to try to connect for a while. |
1. Gnutella/LimeWire (6346) 2. Lan/DSL 3. Non 4. At work 10x for ur fast respond |
From a network at work. That could be the issue. Do this simple test & go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ It should say Test page was a success. What happened when you go there? I'd suggest you try to Force IP: Force IP instructions & sample image |
It says: Your test page was a success! I already Forced IP. It was working befor i had problem in my system, I re-install it then I upgrade it to Mac OS X 10.3.7 |
OK the possible solution is a bit heavy. Installing or updating ovr the net can & has caused issues. Some files don't install properly. It means downloading the Java standalone installer http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...update142.html OR/& downlding & installing the OS 10.3.7 Combo update which is also a standalone installer. I don't have a link for it at the moment, it could take a while to find it. In the meantime you could try this: LW Jum build & choose the htm link. His is like a beta of a beta but tends to run more smoothly. It could prove to be an interesting test to see if it overcomes your issues. |
Oh found the OS 10.3.7 Combo http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...te_10_3_7.html It's 97 MB in size! Before & after you install softw you should do a Safe Boot & Repair permissions: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...6094#post96094 |
But I have a Super Drive DVD-RW/CD-RW |
What are you saying? lol I don't understand your point. |
Sorry... I thought u r talking about Combo Drive. I am downloading OS 10.3.7 Combo now 10x alot |
Hi again... I did what u told me to do.. I installed OS 10.3.7 Combo, but still the same this time when I start LW it takes long time to launch, when it's lunched it;s keeping connecting after that it gives me a massege that u r not connected to the internet or Firwall is blocking u. I am connecting to the internet + there is no problem with my Firewall . |
Hmm, try the Java standalone installer then. The link is above. If that fails, try the Jum build. There's some small differences with that version. That link is also above. |
I tryed but still same problem, not connecting |
Ah so you have a firewall. Did you configure it for LW: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml So you tried the Jum build & it still wouldn't connect? After installing everything did you repair permissions? See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...6094#post96094 Whilst LW is closed try deleting LW's Prefs folder found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire (this will mean you will need to reset the preferences settings within LW next time you open it.) Give LW some time to connect. Even go to the file menu & select disconnect & then select connect again. Wait some time to give it a chance to load everything - the incomplete & shared files which can take a while. |
Hi.... I tryed every thing man.. Firewall is OK, I did repair permissions, I delet Prefs folder for LW, I give ALL the time for LW to start... I did every thing bu still the same problem. PLZ I need ur help 10x |
Can you provide more info about your connection. How large is the lan? Is it run with just macs or is it controlled by a windows machine? Do you know what the connection device & router is (brand & model, etc.)? |
we have around 70 users on our network it;s controled by windows server, and it has windows & Mac machines internet connection is DSL, but I have no idea about the router & device brand or model, but it was working with me befor I install the new system. |
You mean you had LW working before this version? Which version were you using before? |
Yes it was working vary well befor, LimeWire 4.2.6 Pro. |
So you were 'already' using 4.2.6 when you 1st started having problems or another version? Or you only started having problems when you updated to 4.2.6? What version were you using before that? |
from the beganing I am using LW 4.2.6 pro & it was working well. then I use to have system problem, so I installed Mac OS 10.3.4, then I upgrad it to 10.3.7, since that time LW was not connecting. |
At this stage I'm not sure. I sent a pm to another member who might have some ideas. :) One other idea: Open up a new OSX user account & install LW within it. This should not be affected by other things & will not be affected by things from your present account. Set up a completely new location for it. I know Stief would recommend doing this & can help to find out what the issue is. If it works in the new user account then... After this you'd tried everything I can think of other than going backward a version or trying the Beta. You could try the beta 4.3.2 You'll find a link for it at the bottom of your personal downld page. I might want to know how you have your prefs are set up but that can come later. |
First you don't need a firewall on osx, uninstall it or desactivate it completly to run LW. Second, if that doesn't work, maybe the company blocked Gnutella traffic. If they do, there is not much you can do. I'd try another Gnutella app as Acquisition just to confirm the problem is not on LW's end. http://acquisitionx.com/ (the author of this app is an *** and abuses LW gpl liscence, so don't promote it ;) , only testing purposes. ) |
Might not be quite so relevant here, but, my first term at university i was all smiles about the fact that we have a 10MBs connection here (T1 I think?). Anyhow, got my ibook set up and my internet connection, downloaded LW and low and behold it wouldn't connect. Now, I don't know what happened, but a few weeks of non-connection and an irate fresher later, LW suddenly decided to work. I know for a fact that the uni network is monitored and I'm actually playing a dangerous game sharing files :D but what the hey! So yeah, I don't know what the deal is, but mid-way through the term, I could download at my leisure. And then I had my laptop stolen, so I got a new one (on insurance :D). And then I'm having problems again. It could just be something really random to do with the network. That's my theory. And mine is now doing the same thing as before (see my posts in the other forum) as I speak. Anyone, any ideas as to actually get LW downloading? Got it connected now, but it's really struggling to download. |
Fresher: Try Force IP: Force IP instructions & sample image |
Already forcing my IP, forgot to mention that :D and i'm definitely using the same ports |
You haven't told us anything about your system: Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version, 2. What firewalls you have, 3. ram, 4. HDD space available, 5. Connection type, 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Have you tried all the suggestions in this thread?! :) |
Okey doke: 1. OS 10.3.7 2. I only have the built in firewall, currently off, when it's on it's set to allow traffic from the gnutella port 6346. 3. 256 RAM 4. 60GB hard drive, about 57.5 GB left 5. I'm on a 10Mbs connection, most probably a T1 6. Modem is the apple built in modem, MotorolaSM56k 7. I'm a university student so I'm going through the university network. Forcing my IP means that LW's now connected to the gnutella network, it'll search for files, it's just struggling to download them from whatever host it's trying to access (it downloads a bit, then starts connecting again, then downloads a bit, then starts connecting, etc etc) |
I have to say 256 MB ram is not a lot for OSX. My LW often uses up to 500 MB ram. You're eithr using your 56kbps modem OR you're using an ehternet connection thru your school. It's either one or the other. You internal modem's max downld speed is approx 7 KB/s. You don't need a firewall for OSX! Do you mean forcing ip did have some success for you? If yes, then that's a good sign! Uni's are always a bit of a mystery b/c we don't know what type of limits they've applied. And they may decide to apply them anytime particularly if they detect p2p activity. That's all for now before my head hits my keyboard. lol :D I'll review this later! |
Hehe, I have the utmost sympathy for you! Ok, modem wise I'm therefore running through the university ethernet; it's definitely only 256 RAM I have; my firewall is now definitely off! |
Hi again.. I creat a new user then installed LW on it.. still the same.. WHAT IS WRONG WITH LW Y it's so complecated?!!!!!!! |
aokal: Try et voilą's suggestion with Aquisition. Fresher: Try either or both the Jum build mentioned earlier in the thread or the beta: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml (if you're a pro user you'll find a link to the pro beta version on your personal downld page.) |
Ok, I'm afraid I have a new problem, one that there probably isn't much help for. The university network is currently being configured to block out the various p2p networks and throw off anyone using them automatically and I can't really see any ways of avoiding this or getting around it. This is probably why LW wouldn't connect up. Are there any networks that the university may not cover, namely minor networks? Gnutella is a dead cert to be bloked, along with Kazaa/fastrack, bit torrent and probably open nap too. There's no version of DC++ for mac yet, I'm not sure if Open FT is being blocked too. LOTR, I know it's not your speciality but any immediate thoughts on this potential conundrum? |
I sent you a link to a mac version DC in the other thread. Have a look. As for the university dilemna ... not sure. Somebody else on the forum might have an idea. Have a look at this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=32294 |
LW connection problems and player problems I am having similar problems suddenly (was OK yesterday). Am running 10.3.3 via apple internal modem. Installed some new software on my machine a couple of days ago and now LW seems to have gone haywire! Not too sure if this is a coincidence. Internet connect shows a connection, but LW says can't connect and also having connection problems through IE and Safari. Have now set up gnutella connection through Firewall so hope this will help. Also LW player suddenly not working either and is checked in preferences. Not too sure if I should just dump LW and re-install. HELP!!! |
