what file types are good for mac? Hi, I'm pretty new here and am wondering what kinds of files work the best, or at all for mac. video files seem to consist of avi, mov, and wmv, while there are other types of files listed as exe, rar, dmg, zip, sit, and bin. I would just like to know which ones would work best for me and are the easiest to apply. Thanks |
.dmg's are pretty much mac only, and .sit's also. For video, .mpg is most likely to work well. If Quicktime can't play it, vlc http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html will. .exe (executable) will not work at all in regular Macs. |
For osx you'd be better off staying away from wmv files for movies. For other types ... dmg, sit, sometimes zip (if they specify macosx), sometimes pkz, sometimes ... g? Bin is generally concerned with pre-osx 'IF' it's a mac files (some windows cd image files use the bin extension.) Stay away from rm files. Get http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (choose nearest mirror site) as a back up video player. ALso read thru the recent threads which may give more insight about how to maximise Quicktime player. |
