Default limewire for osx build 10.3.9 won't work

Yes! I just download 10.3.9 last night and now the limewire icon shows but nothing happens (it just bounces around on the dock). Did you find a solution?

I've also had problems since updating to OS 10.3.9. Software updater now has a Java updater for the 10.3.9 and now LimeWire is working fine - thankfully!

Default Limewire Still Doesn't Connect

I had been using 4.0.8 Pro and don't use it very often. When I tried to start it the other day, it wouldn't. I have read all the posts concerning the problems with 3.9 and Java. I have installed all the Apple updates and restarted several times. I switched to the latest free version of Limewire. Now it opens but can't connect. Are there possibly some System preferences that should be set to accomodate Limewire, although I never had to worry about that in the past? Thanks.

It's the Apple fault: Java on MacOSX is made and supported only by Apple, and this port of Java is a standard part of OSX.

So it's up to Apple to fix the installers for the updates of its own OS. The fact that other apps work without such problem is that these apps don't use Java.

(But note: Safari needs Java on MacOSX and Safari is now the default browser for MacOSX; I don't think that Apple will consider that upgrading Java incorrectly and breaking Safari is not an important problem. Can Apple seriously think about OSX without a working browser?)

Today Apple released an official fix.

http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...acosx1039.html

Use Software Update to install, or the link to the standalone installer is also provided.

There is also a link to the more technical details of what went wrong (FYI Philippe)
Quote:
To reduce the memory footprint of Java applications, the HotSpot Java Virtual Machine (JVM) in Mac OS X makes use of a Java Shared Archive (JSA). The JSA contains the preprocessed internal HotSpot JVM representations of common standard Java classes that would otherwise be found and processed from the standard classes.jar file. Mac OS X 10.3.9 has exposed an issue in the use of the JSA, by which the virtual memory location of libhotspot.dylib can become incompatible with the current JSA. This can result in Java crashing on every execution.

Default Still Can't Connect

As I said earlier, I have done all the updates, and have done them several times. I have deleted preferences, restarted, and still can't connect.
