Empty Files - No sound This morning (and a few other times as well) I have downloaded some songs but then I cannot play them. No sound comes out of the speaker. After about 10 seconds of 'playing' it goes to the next song. I use iTunes, OSX 10.3.9, LW 4.8.1, 384 MB ram, 1gHz - G4 This morning's session had at least 4 songs that 'just weren't there.' I deleted them from iTunes and went to the Trash, dragged them to the desktop, got info, changed the 'Open With' from iTunes to QuickTime just to see if that would make a difference, tried to play on QT, but it as with iTunes, it wouldn't. Any ideas out there? I'm guessing the files are simply corrupted, but ususally I get a 'corrupt' message on LW. On 'Get Info' the size of the files are substantial - 1.5 MB on up to 6 MB, so something's there. |
Does sound as though they're corrupt. But just to be sure make sure you have xtra iTunes plug-ins & even a backup player like Audion (now free.) See: Issues you should know about iTunes & iPod & Audion link can be found on 1st link on that page. About corrupt files see: T3 Spammers; mp3 Bit-Rates Versus File Sizes |
Interesting, LOTR, I seem to recall that all the files I downloaded were T3s. Hmmm. I never knew that they were problems, just that I might get lucky with a faster download. Here's a screen shot of a search that was similar to what I tried this morning. I read the links you sent above, I guess I'll just stay away from these types of files in the future. By the way, is there any way to block this type of response? |
LOTR - I tried to post a jpg or jpeg file of a screen shot for the previous post showing a bunch of T3 responses but it wouldn't upload...sorry. I'm going to see if I can make the file smaller and repost. |
Not all T3 sources are bad. But if you're aiming for the most recent popular music then one should be a little wary of T3 sources. Downlding from multiple sources of cable & modem can still be very fast anyway. That's something else. Some people don't check their downlded files immediately & may leave them in their share folders for weeks before realising they downlded a bad file. So that gets back to checking bitrate v's file-size. |
