Brushed Metal Theme doesn't work on OSX 10.4

After upgrading to OSX 10.4 and installing Limewire 4.8.1 the brushed metal theme doesn't appear anymore in the 'view>apply skins' menu.

I checked that the skin files are present in the folder 'library>preferences>limewire>themes>'. Changing the filename of the theme files makes the theme appear in the menu BUT results in a Classic Theme and not in Brushed Metal Theme.

Before I upgraded to Tiger the brushed metal skin worked ok.

We'll take a look at it and fix it for the next release.

no Brushed Metal option available for LWPro OSX v4.9.x

Ditto with the several threads on the forums - I cannot get a Brushed Metal option to show in the View/ Apply Skins menu. The only OS X theme that shows is "Pinstripes Theme (OSX)".
(I have tried the 5 others in the menu, including the so-called "metal" but it, and all others are Windows motif.)

Lack of Brushed Metal skin function is under OS X Tiger 10.4.2, LimeWire Pro v 4.9.x (currently 4.9.28 which i think is the 'latest official' release). And I did do a complete 'clean-out' of last version before I installed the 4.9.28.

Note - this is even though the Preferences folder / LimeWire / Theme does include a file and folder for "brushed_metal_theme_osx". It just refuses to show as an option for actual display in LimeWire Pro itself.

(I cannot currently try under Panther, because I have switched machines, and only have Tiger OS for now).

Note that Brushed Metal OS X theme DID work under my LimeWire Pro 4.8.1 under Panther OS X 10.3.7. So something 'broke' either with the Pro v 4.9.x or with OS X Tiger 10.4.x

Is there some manual work-around procedure I can do?

Because my Pro term is pretty much expired, so I don't think I will be able to wait to download a future FIXED version on my current paid id. (and the messages in the threads have indicated that a fix is on the to-do list...)

Thank you.

A post from S Berlin is not often seen on the forums, but If he says he'll look into it I think it's fair to say he will!

et voilà September 1st, 2005 06:05 PM

Sam Berlin post was from may. He is no longer a LW dev (since july). If you find that it doesn't work, post in the LW beta forum a new thread. If it's not there anymore (it shows in the list for me, but I have not the typical LW install), then it is gone because Brush metal look in java for osx is not as obvious (more buggy) than aqua -- Apple problem, as other things like NIO bugs and virtual memory leaks --.

I'm an osx fan, but damn apple java is buggy.

Ciao

Don't you wish people wouldn't post in old threads! :D the last time I checked the dates BEFORE I made a fool of myself:) All is clear now. I have tried to install Tiger and my ageing computer does'nt seem to want it, so I haven't hit this problem. The Brushed finish works well for me.

Yes, time passes... but still's been good to get a better feel for the history of the issue, as an infrequent visitor anyway.

The good news is that most aspects of LimeWire have worked pretty well, so I've rarely had any need to look into the support forums.

Since Brushed metal did work on my iMac G4 Panther 10.3.7, LWPro 4.8.1, and does on your 10.3.9 with LW 4.9.28, but not on my iMac G5 Tiger 10.4.2, it is beginning to look like a Tiger issue.

So, even this helps to narrow it down.
Now, is there hope that one of the LW developers will be able to track down the particulars with this much good user feedback, and get Brushed Metal operating again on 10.4 Tiger???

Thx.

What's been done about this? As of 27/9/2005 the latest version of Limewire 4.9.30 pro still doesn't show Brushed metal skin as an option.http://www.gnutellaforums.com/newrep...postid=134770#
