Episkope, (1) As Tiger is either bundled with newly bought Mac machines, either sold on DVD/Cds, any .dmg of Tiger you can download from the p2p are either fake or intermediate developper builts, the lattest one are not an official release and can lead to problem if installed on a non-developper machine. (2) Tiger updates, available from the Apple Support Web page are updates and can only be installed on a previous -but installed- version of Tiger. (3) There is no update allowing you to jump from Mac OSX 10.2 (Jaguar) or MacOSX 10.3 (Panther) up to MacOsx 10.4 (Tiger): to install Tiger on your "not newly bought" machine, you'll have to buy the Tiger retail DVDs (4) If you try to install Tiger from a DVD/CD bundle wiht a new machine, note that this DVD/CD installation procedure is dedicated to the same king of machine. For instance, if you the Tiger DVD bundled with a PowerBook, you will not able to use this DVD to install Tiger on an iMac So, now the question is: on which machine do you try to install which Tiger ? :D Phil |
How about mounting OS 10.3? Have (3) .dmg files on desktop and would like to install 10.3. Currently will not mount. How can I mount? |
Burn to disk. If not using Disk Copy then use Toast. You won't be able to install via mounting. |
.dmg files are Mac OsX related. If you try to mount them from Mac OS 9.x, no chance ! If you're running Mac Osx 10.2 Jaguar, normally they can mount. But -again as my post above about Tiger-, (1) are your Panther .dmg files images of Panther official Retailled Cds or not ? (2) Panther CDs for an iMac cannot be used to install Panther on a PWB and vice versa: so be sure of your sources or be prepared to nightmares because installing a wrong dedicated Panther release may harm your machine (3) an update of your machine firmware are compulsory before going to Panther and this update can only be done when booting on 9.x (4) a 9.2.2 release prior to the install of panther is helpfull -especially if you run old applications that have not been port Phil Panther retail CDs are sold on ebay for a few bucks, so do not play with fire. |
