lime wire wont open

I have just downloaded Limewire 4.8.1 for OS X. I am runing OS X 10.2.8 curently. It just bounces up and down for a while then just site there and the program dose not open. When i right click on the icon in the dock and tell it to force quit limewire it tells me limewire has unexpectedly quit. What is going on and can i get limewire to work on my computer?

what's going on? Something is missing in your java installation. If you open your Console (it's in your Utilities folder), you can see the error message when LimeWire fails.

The quickest fix is to to do a Safe Boot (hold down the shift key on a restart--search these forums for more info) and/or reinstall java. For 10.2.8, use http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120242

If that doesn't work, open the Console, repeat the problem, then copy the error message here so the experts can see what the specific problem is.

Doug,
I have no experience of LW on Jaguar, but in general, when applications only bounce in the Dock and when the only solution to get rid of them is to force-quit, I try to repare permissions and clean cache.
Just have a look the bible The Xlab

I'm having the same problem... I have Version 10.3.9, and I just updated it today. Right after I did, LimeWire will not open. I click it, in bounces on the dock two or three times, and then shuts down. No error message appears. Help!!

Well it's been when people have been updating their apple OS that these problems have generally been occuring. Often the answer is to re-install Java using the standalone Java installer (ie: don't install Java over the net!) Have a look at the Sticky in this section.

Yes,
10.3.9 is an update Apple should'nt release.
My old G3 will always be "sticked" to 10.3.8

10.3.9 runs better than 10.3.8 on my old G3 iBook--once the java patch was installed, as referenced in LOTR's sticky ;)

And for the record, as eveyone participating in this thread knows, the thread originates with a discussion of 10.2.8

I have the LimeWire.crash.log file, who can Read it so they can identify the cause of the app not running ?

stief June 22nd, 2005 10:26 PM

You can post it here, but in case it has any personal info, feel free to email it to me.

Chances are I can find an expert who can better read it.

Thanks in advance !
