warning message comes up when trying to download whenever I try and download a file I get the following warning message: "Limewire cannot open a neccessary file because the file name contain characters which are not supported by your operating system. Limewire may behave in unexpected ways." what can I do to fix the problem and download. I run os x tiger. |
Mac OSX (and related web servers) are a little bit strict on the kind of special characters a filename or pathname can contain: * do not use slash (/), colon (:) or period (.) * "&", "@", .... * filename as "my.local.directory" are not well handled. * .. So in your case: (1) either the file you try to dl contains such awfull characters and Tiger refuses to save the file in the Shared folder: no solution because it is the fault of the guy you dl from (95% a Windows based machine) (2) either your Limewire and/or Shared folder is within a directory the name of which contains such awfull characters Phil |
LW was patched a long time ago to correct the illegal characters issue of cross-platform name conventions. What version of LW gave the warning message? If it's 4.8.1, that may indicate a new issue. (Philippe99--the cybergarage problem was passed on as noted in your PM's). |
