If the id tags on mp3s are the wrong type they will not show up with much information. You will usually get several files not fully described in any given search, but I have done a couple of searches where nothing shows up at all in the boxes on the left, which is what you are talking about, I assume.

I don't think you can do much about it except that hope that the hosts sharing the files convert the 1d tags to verion 1.1 or 2.3. I have no idea if this is really helpful advise as it is just what I have deduced on my own, with little understanding of how it works.

I can suggest that if you stasrt to d/l a file you can almost immediately preview it. Sometimes you will see the full description, and sometimes a preview number which is little use. It is worth trying though.

I hope this helps a bit!

Likewise this is an issue I've recognised as a problem. iTunes is definitely limited re: reading certain id3 tags. When this type of situation occurs, then I make note of the id3 tag details from the search result & add it to the song after it's downlded via mp3 Rage. I check the tags with that proggie & add anything that's missing. Else add it to iTunes after it's been added (if it's been added.) MP3 rage is particularly good for albumwraps for QuickEdit (multiple file.) Checking the details both before & after extracting.

Also not all mp3's have id3 tags which makes iTunes struggle. It only lists the file name under the title (if it imports it at all.)

I may also use Audion to help me in this identification. Remember the full version of Audion is now free since they stopped developing it. Pity, it had more abilities than iTunes re: recognising mp3 types & id3 tags. See the General Mac OSX Sticky for links.

I'd love to hear from anyone for better solutions for OSX users!

I shall do a bit of homework on this one.... but i must say that I have no problem with iTunes as a rule, provided the id3Tags are set at 1.1 or 2.3, and there is NO artwork attatched. If you search direct connect for you own ip number you can see, your share as, I presume, other LW users see it and that helps find which 1d3 tags are faulty. I have most of mine correct now to a point, but some tags seem to have reverted to what they were when I downloaded them. If I "convert to mp3" these files using itunes, not forgetting to convert the id3 tag from iTunes annoying default of 2.2 to 2.3, they seem to identify themselves well enough.

The "comments" and "track numbers" are another matter which seem to require more attention!

I shall look into your suggestions and see what I make of them...
