Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. Well that's a Java crash, not much can be done beside Apple Java guys FINALLY getting Java right. I have lots of those Java crashes. Sometimes I wish Sun would have done the Java port onto os x... Well maybe it'll be fixed in the next Java update. Have you tried reinstalling Java 1.4.2 update 2? Because 10.3.9 did broke Java on some machines. http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...update142.html Bonne chance

hmm. that's strange because the Apple Software Update only this morning brought that Java update up as available. not sure why it would have waited until now. i know we're up to 10.4.2, but i'm not a huge fan of constant upgrades. particularly when they cost me. i wait until there's a reason that i need to upgrade before spending any money. |

Mac OS X version IT is absolutely ridiculous for you to imply that users of OS X need to upgrade to 10.4.2 to correct blatant errors in the JAVA implementation for 10.3.9 . There are many computer users such as myself that prefer to use our machines to get work done rather than as a platform for experimenting with bleeding edge code. I currently work with over a dozen music applications on my Mac and have no desire whatsoever to upgrade to 10.4.2 so that I can re-purchase broken sotware or spend hours applying patches or hunting for new drivers or even getting used to new "features", or even doing without because the small company that made it is gone. Apple released "Panther" and sold it to the public as a finished product that they should stand by, not abandon for the next thing and leave 20 to 30 percent of their customers wondering what happened. This sort of behavior reminds me of another software manufacturer that is notorious for the sloppiest code on the planet. I also find the attitude that computer users need to have the latest versions of software to be disproprtionatly supportive of the software manufacturers and (also the computer manufacturers) and a burden on computer users. If the software is seriously lacking, or flawed when it is sold, the consumer is essentially a beta tester for the manufacturer; this is unnacceptable. It is the job of the software manufacturer to convince me of the necessity of spending MY time upgrading their software. How so many people have been brainwashed into this mindless upgrading is beyond me. As for this issue with Limewire, I still don't have a working copy of Limewire on my machine because I made the terrible assumption based on history that Apple only provides patches that improve the quality of their software; seeing as how this has now been proved wrong, I have already turned off the auto-updating portion of software update and I will treat these suggested upgrades the same way I treat Microsoft's upgrades - with a VERY large grain of salt. |

I'm guessing you're using Panther, right? Yeah I feel a little similar about "some" of the things you said. And why should we have to pay for Tiger or Leopard. But getting to the point of your problem, Take et voilà's suggestion about the "offline" Java 1.4.2 update 2 installer. It seems to generally do the job of fixing this Java saga. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...update142.html If it doesn't let you install it, then remove the Java142_update2.pkg file from the receipts folder; Receipts folder sample image After that, repair permissions by rebooting whilst holding down SHIFT key until you see the Safe Booting message. Then after fully started up, Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder & Repair permissions. Then reboot normally & try LW then. BTW I recently (some days ago) upgraded to Tiger & installed Java 1.5, & on "my" system, LW seems to behave much better with it than Java 1.4.2 did in Panther. LW behaves faster & has yet to crash after a few days of heavy use. (I have large no. of incomplete & shares.) VM & ram is very consistent.
