Angry Limewire unexpectedly quits, tried MANY THINGS

I know my issue isn't (or doesn't seem to be) unique, but I've spent hours searching this forum for a solution and haven't been able to get Limewire working.

Basically, I download Limewire Basic, go through the steps to install it, and then load it. When I do, the icon bounces (on the dock), seems to be loading, and then quits with a message, "Limewire has unexpectedly quit. Other programs have not been affected," or something like that.

I have a Powerbook G4, 867MHz, 640 MB Ram, 2.08 gigs of space, and am using OSX Panther 10.3.9.

I don't think my Java is the problem, as I can use java in other areas like the internet and the Terminal doesn't say any error when I ask it.

I have a good grip on the basic functions on my mac, but as far as things like the Terminal, Disk Utility, Reinstalling updates, and Safe restart (all things I have tried) goes, I'm not that advanced, so I don't know if I'm doing them right.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This Link needs to be removed. This pro version is the only way the developers make money to keep developing LimeWire. If you circumevent the process, you help to destroy the application. thank you for supporting the pro version since i know you will now purchase it. (btw, i used to run a site that distributed the pro version, but i quit doing that since i found out that its the only way that the developers keep making limewire.)

If you are asking me to remmove it then why arent you asking the person that posted the link in here to remove it? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=42455 you also quoted this person and have the link in your quote...

This is not a Pro version. But it is an up to date CVS version which means users should not use this version unless they know how to work out the possible bugs. It is not a version for mass distribution but still serve many purposes such as beta testing and avoiding install process of regular LW on os x.

Ciao

Cool Working! (although not solved)

Ahh sweet! So I tried Jum's version and it seems to be working for now! So I'm happy and greatful to those of you who helped.

But I must add, we didn't ever find out what was wrong with the regular version of Limewire, and I'd still be willing to try to find out using my computer if you guys want to. Ya know, do all that troublshooting stuff. Just let me know!

Thanks again!

Talking Same issue, same solution here

Well, I hate to admit it, but I also have a Powerbook G4 running Mac OS 10.3.9.
I had the exact same issue with Limewire quitting at startup. I followed the Limewire links to the apple website, and I found I did NOT have any of the java or other possible problems.
I went to:
http://www.mager.org/LimeWire/
and this solved my problem as well.
I feel bad getting a "bogus" version, but this is the only way I've been able to get Limewire to run.

Jum contributes towards LW's development & his beta's have found out some bugs or improvements later taken on by the LW. But this version is only intentionally meant for testing (ie: beta testing). At least use it until a LW version comes out with fixes to your issues. If you find bugs in it, don't forget to let Jum know about them. And be aware the media player has been disabled.

Thumbs up Thanks Jum and LOTR

To both Lord of the Rings and Jum:
Thank you. I'm happy to be up and running with Limewire again.
BTW, does anyone know how to filter out the bogus mp3 files that come up on Limewire? Usually they are reported as corrupt by Limewire, but not until the end of the download.
