![]() Hello. I have just downloaded version 4.9.23 and I am having problems. Limewire has become very sluggish. Whenever I try and resume some download or try and scroll to the bottom of the download list the application just freezes. the whole thing seems like it is not working properly. Checking "About Limewire" I see that I am actually using version 4.9.11 (not 4.9.23 as advertised) plus I have Java 1.4.1_01. Due to hardware restrictions I cannot go above OSX 10.3.3. I have read somewhere that I should be using Java 1.5 with this version? Is this true and if so can I run this on the OS that I have? Do I have to revert to an older version? Is there anyone out there that can help me resolve this issue. Thanks Limie. |

![]() Hardware restrictions stop you updating to OS 10.3.9? I have an older G4 here (400 Mhz) which was one of the very 1st G4's but it's happily running 10.3.9 So I can only guess you're running a G3 or earlier. If you decide to update to 10.3.9 then I'd suggest you get the standalone Combo installer (ie: install it from your computer, not over the net using soft update!) By updating your OSX you'll also be updating Java to 1.4.2_05 The reason I suggested the standalone installer is b/c there's been issues with using software update re: Java. OS 10.3.9 Combo installer (click on link) Java 1.5 is only available to 10.4 users. LW 4.9.24 has been released & can be obtained from here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml |

![]() Hi Lord of the rings and thanks for the quick reply, Sorry I obviously did not make myself clear. My hardware restrictions are because I use the Matrox RTmac for editing (Not supported beyond 10.3.3). And yes I realise that Java 1.5 is for Tiger but I have seen somewhere that you can run it on Macs with 10.2.8 + is this the case? Also, my original question was whether Java 1.4.1_01 was OK for version 4.9.23 or whether I should step down a peg or two? Thanks again Limie |

![]() Salut Limie, java 1.4 is ok especially if you know that when java 1.5 is installed on panther, java apps still use by default java 1.4. Now, normally 4.9.23 should run well on your machine, that is if java 1.4.1 isn't buggy. Can you install java 1.4.2_05 available for os x 10.3? One big difference in the 4.9 series is that it uses NIO a technology only available in java 1.4, but since apple java implementations are usually buggy... If version 4.8 was working great, you could download it for os x from LW. Ciao
