Shows 3 files shared when there should be 0 I set the sharing slots to zero and I have no extensions in my preferences for "allowed extensions" for sharing, however I show "3 files shared" in the bottom of my Limewire screen. Are there Limewire required files that are being counted here as shared? I don't see a way to track down the files being mentioned here. Any info? |
The share slots you mention are, I think upload slots. If you set this to Zero you will be showning shared files but no one will be able to upload from you. I think some users do this to be annoying ... and it works. There is a way to find out what thes files might be and I have an idea what they are but I am not inclined to share this with you. I will ask if you are using MacOSX, as this is a Mac OSX forum, as I am interested to if know what I think is happening IS happening. My dissinclination to share my thoughts are as a result of your dissinclination to share files. And if it is your intention to not share files the network will not benefit from your involvement. Now I may have entirely missread your intentions, and if so I shall gladly continue the discussion. |
hmmmmm... don't see where I said I was not sharing.... anyway... While using Limewire Pro and experimenting with it's settings on OSX I noted a behavior that I don't understand...... |
how do I see what i am sharing?? Hi there, I am new to limewire but have downloaded quite abit and I have just noticed that I am shareing 56 files....... .......How do I know what they are downloading from me? Can you answer this in layman terms please, I am running mac osx. many thanks |
sorry forgot to ask!! Sharing so many files, does this slow down my connections? also i have been trying to download at least 15 songs and 2 of the same movie but there seems to be no one sharing?? |
They might not be shared by anybody or they're offline at the time you try or they're too difficult to connect to or they're too busy (upld slots full), or they use other gnutella clients such as Shareaza or Morpheus which are multinetwork programs & usually spend most of their upload capacities upon those 'other' networks. That's why clients like Shareaza (RAZA) are often difficult to connect to or give very very slow upld speeds such as 0.1 -3 KB/s. If you control-click the top of the downld window bar or the results bar, a drop down menu will appear giving you extra view options. One of them is Vendor/Version which if selected, will show an extra column which will show which client you are downlding from. My advice is to see the following link & follow "ALL" the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link) (apologies, sample images are not showing on the forum at the moment & might be inactive for a few more days yet!) |
Uploading shouldn't affect your downld speeds unless you're using dial up or some dsl connections might be affected. Most people use adsl, etc. so it doesn't apply. Uploading should actually help you connect to other people. Improve your searches & chances of getting better downld results. |
Hi there Thanks for replying so quickly again, unfortunately i have either not read what you have said properly or just need more time to understand whats happening!! Yes, i have seen uploads or downloads in my moniter section!! but that doesn't explain why I have 62 people sharing and its not showing!! I may not have been registered long but feel that I have downloaded a bit to have an idea of what is going on. I am worried that i am sharing files and it is not registering anywhere or ony a few are registering. I know the areas to check in limewire preferences but unless i get an answer that will put me at ease i will cancel them and continue to share files but if i see that it says i am sharing a certain amount but it does not register at my end i will cancel them. Please can you help me here as i throughly enjoy using limewire. or i am not looking in the right place!! |
Sorry, What i meant the first time was that there not showing in the moniter now!! |
Hi again, sorry, bit confused with Hits and sharing!! Hits = people who have looked? sharing = people who are sharing your file? |
Yes Hits means how many people have found your particular files in their searches. Library window, select one of your shared folders & look at the columns to the right to find Hits column. Uploads column will show 1. complete uplds/partial uplds which may be shared with other users to the person(s) that were/are uplding from you. I'm not sure because I have uplds & downlds set to autoclear, but I doubt the monitor window will show partial uplds when the person might have got the last bit of the file from someone else. And who is uplding from you at any time can change very quickly so you might not notice that someone uplded parts of a file from you. sharing = people who are sharing your file? I'm not sure what you mean here. But if it's a partial upld I believe it can mean 2 things. 1. That you helped the person get parts of the same file some other people are also sharing, & 2. Someone only uplded a part of a file from you without assistance from other sharers but didn't get the whole file yet. If I'm incorrect about this then I'd be happy to be set straight. |
Sorry it's me again!! The last time i wrote i cleared the inactive files and downloaded five new movies and everything has gone back to normal ...well as normal as i know. The monitor is showing now that there are (uploads/downloads- I think i will have to write down what these mean as my brain is not functioning properly). Thank you for both your support, you are a credit to Limewire and i hope they know it..!!! P.s. I will copy what you both have written for future ref, thanks a million |
