unwanted downloads I have noticed that everytime I search for a video file 99 percent of the results are pornographic. They also come from the same vendor. How can I stop this? |
General tips about downlding videos: 1. Influx of Porn recently being Spammed on Network - How to Stop it returning in your search results & apply all the keywords in final link to your keyword filter. ie: LW Preferences (Command & comma) > Filters > Keywords. See How to use the Keyword Filter for example. In case you missed it, the link with all the terms to use is within HERE (click link) Some foul words, but it only needs to be done once & is very effective!!! ;) :) 2. Movie download issues 3. Learn to use Bitzi lookup to see if there's any user feedback about that particular file; How to use Bitzi Web Lookup ... 4. You can also preview what you're downlding but you can only preview as much as you've downlded. So you'd need at least 5+%. Disadvantage of previewing is it leaves a copy of the preview in the incomplete folder called PREVIEW - xxx.mpg for example. Best programs for previewing in OSX are (a) VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site), & (b) MPlayer, or (b) XinePlayer |
My Limewire Tools options only contains > 'statistics'. There is no option for filters. As for the keywords, I have just accidently downloaded a porn video that had the name of a comedian in its title and none of the obscene words. Is there a ay of filtering out vendors. They often come from the same Vendor (whatever that means exactly I do not know ) |
You mean you use OSX & don't know how to find the preferences. The preferences for almost all programs are found in the same location. Under the word Limewire in the far left of the menu bar (next to the apple logo.) Short-cut is command & comma. It sounds to me like you were just unlucky with the file you got. Was it an avi/mpg/mpeg file? Stay away from wmv files. Vendor = program make. Limewire is a vendor. Raza (Shareaza) is another, etc. To ban a vendor, you need to manually add it to one of the pref files I think ... I'm not clear on how to do it. You can ban hosts by control-clicking the host in the search results. You can ban them all if you like. Ban as many hosts as you can. lol :D Just because some people share porn doesn't mean all their files are porn & may do it to help getting good contacts/connections. Some people who share porn have some of the hardest to get audio & video files. Also, a host like shareaza who are often difficult to connect to or get reliable speeds from, etc. use more than one network & often have very good video material. As for others, there's some I don't know too much about. |
