Default port location & name?

I've read that I should go to System Prefs/Sharing/Firewall to set the port name & number from the "new" pulldown menu. I have NO Gnutella/Limewire choice. It further says to select 'other', enter a name and port number (or range). When I do this, I cannot change the "other" to Gnutella/Limewire. How do I get the selection "Gnutella/Limewire"??

Last evening my Limewire Pro 4.9.37 finally connected, albeit slowly, and I tried to re-connect 5 times. The 1st 3 were successful, since then total failure. (iMac G5, OS 10.4.2, Java 1.4.2_07) and I've tried all the solutions offered in the forum. Before it connected, I had repaired permissions and ran Disk Warrior 3.0.3.

BTW, when I connected, I checked and found a 5 digit port listed (duh, I didn't write it down). I had been using 6346. That's a TCP port, I have none entered in the UDP port number. Should I??? TIA, Jack

Howdy,

in System Preferences/Sharing You can select the Firewall button and then create a new port setting using "other". Use these spaces to set TCP and UDP ports to 6346 and then enter the discription box as LimeWire. That should do it for the Mac. If you still have trouble, try turning off the Mac firewall. If you are using a router, check the router utilities for firewall settings. the port forward website was helpful for me. it has Limewire settings and router information.

Hope this helps

Default port location & name-redeaux

Thanks for the info. Limewire still doesn't work but at least I know it's not because of the port assignments or firewall.
