Hi,
When I search for files I am only getting quicktime files in the search results and no longer any windows media files. This happened when I updated limewire to version 4.9.37. Is this common, or do I need to change some settings anywhere.

Good news! Why would you want wmv files on a mac anyway. It's such a retrogressive file format. imho So much spam is in wmv format. So much porn is in wmv format. So many wma files that aren't very portable across many if any OSX programs aren't available ... then good. DRM is what WMA/V is almost all about.

Tell me what OSX program you'd play a wma file on. I know of one only & it don't come free (excluding the unupdatable or codec addible wmp for osx).
