Angry LimeWire 4.9.37 Pro Freezes Everything for Ages!!! WHY WHY WHY??

Does anyone know why LW 4.9.37 Pro Freezes the Machine...

I have a Powerbook 1.5ghz, Tiger 10.4.3, Java both 1.4.2 and 5

everytime i start limewire and do a search it completely freezes my computer + other apps for ages... I try and force quit, and even the force quitting takes ages to appear.

Basically everything that is open when LW is doing its freeze completely is unusuable.

I have tried running it on both Java versions and the same happens on both....

Does anyone know how to fix this or is having the same problems??

I've seen that a couple of times: it happens when verifying a download.

I did a Safe Boot (restarted and held down the shift key right after the startup sound), then restarted the machine normally, and all was good again.

Default Little better but still probs

Thanks Mate

Its working a little better which is good,

however i still get the dreaded 'beachball of death' for a about 5-10 seconds when I use other programs... such as now... i'm trying to type this to you and twice it has shown the beachball so i have to wait until it goes away. Do you know whats up with that???

i guess i can be thankful its not freezing the computer for very lengthy periods of time like before..

Did you do the safe boot?

Shutdown for at least two minutes first . . . that will clear the memory, including the virtual memory--which can really grow and slow everything down.

Try again, and check that you have about 10% of your hard drive free. Once you get below a gig or so, evrything can really start to crawl.

See if that helps

Hmmm--your space is fine, so a couple more ideas:

1. Quit everything, and Repair Permissions (using Disk Utility in your Utilities folder).

2. Check Software Update for any new updates.

Restart the macine again (normally)

All should be well this time, I hope.

no idea now--and Phex uses java too, so I think you're right about it being a LW/Apple/Java conflict.

Well, try again after your machine has been up and running for a while. I'll see if I can find an expert to look at this thread tomorrow.

Could you try installing the "jum version"? It's much the same as the Pro version, but built by Jens-Uwe Mager (a real expert) from LimeWire's open source. Here's the link:

http://www.mager.org/LimeWire/LimeWire.html

It would be good to know if it does this too.

Thanks--sorry the attempts at a quick fix didn't work.
