Default itunes update

I just updated my itunes and when I restarted my computer my limewire wouldn't even open. I uninstalled my limewire and reinstalled it but it won't work. I checked my firewall settings and they're ok. I have a feeling that it has something to do with my itunes, does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Try doing a Safe Boot & repairing permissions. ie: Hold down Shift key whilst the comp's starting until you see the message 'Safe Rebooting'. Then once started up, go to Utilities folder, open Disk Utility & repair permissions. Then reboot.

If LW still doesn't open, delete the LW preferences which is found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Depending on which version of LW you have, if you have 4.10 then use the Find/Search to search for limewire or application data. You may need to search using the option for show both visible & invisible items. If you find it, trash the limewire file/folder.

Where is your LW program located ... in the applications folder on the same drive as your system? Normally after installing new software or doing system updates you should repair permissions using the described technique.

i tried all this, i even deleted all my old limewire files and downloaded a new version. do you think it could be problems with my java? or could the new itunes have something installed that blocks limewire? When i try to open it it bounces in the dock and disappears.

The usual answer to fixing bouncing in the dock syndrome is reinstalling Java using the "Offline" standalone installer. If you're using Tiger I think that's this one Java 1.4.2 for Tiger (click on link), however if you're using Panther then try this one http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...update142.html

BTW if it refuses to let you install, then double-click the harddrive icon, open the Library, open the Receipts folder, then find the file: Install java ???.pkg, delete it and try again. For Panther that's Java142Update2.pkg Sorry I don't have Tiger but a sample image for Panther is Receipts folder sample image which will give you an idea of what to do anyway. Who's going to buy Tiger for me lol

I don't know why it should have affected Java though. My guess would have been the protocol that allows LW & iTunes to share. I can't recall the name of it off-hand. Found it, Bonjour (Rendezvous)
