Well i switched from a pc to a mac recently, and downloaded windows media player. The movies i used to play from limewire on my other computer that worked dont work on my mac. Even when i try to play them on windows media player. They all show up as quicktime videos and some work but a lot dont. I try to play the movie through windows media player and it says it cant be done. If someone could help me in making windows media player play these files that would be great. Most downloads show up as quicktime under the question mark. only asx files are windows media player. Is there a way to change that?

WMP for mac is a joke!!! It really is. You can't get extra codecs for it either.

Most mac users use VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) as it has its own built-in codecs & is generally very reliable. To see what it can do, see http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html Also good for both audio & video streaming.

To change the default of a file on mac osx, select the file, Command & i, or go to menu File>Get Info. Then choose open with. Then choose the program on the list. If it's not listed, use the browse option at the bottom. And then choose always open with.

Personally I use VLC for almost all video files with the exception of Mpeg2 which I use Quicktime for but I have the mpeg2 QT codec for it.
For audio, I use iTunes & Audion.

Select a file in the finder/desktop, not in LW. Then use the apple key & i key held down together. That will bring up the Get Info command. The other way is apple menu bar, file>Get info.
