Default Limewire unexpectadly shut down

Hi to all,
I am a bit new to this. I have just recently upgraded to the Pro version.
Every since doing so, in addition to keeping up-to-date with all my Mac OSX software, such as Safari, Mail, and my Airport Express wireless lan netowrk, the Limewire operation began to "Shut down Unexpectedly", according to the message that pops up on my screen. It usually happens after an hour or two from the time I start up Limewire.

Has anyone experience this problem before? Can anyone help solve it?

Any advise will be most appreciated.

Thanks again.

Before you open LW, go to Utilities folder & open Activity Monitor program. Then open LW. Monitor how much Virtual Memory (VM) LW uses over time. Do a search & see whether the VM amount increases at all. If yes, by how much per min(s)? And how much VM in total before your LW crashes?

WHich OSX version are you using? WHich version of Java?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
It looks like LM is using 541.20MB of virtual memory, and 71.77 MB of real memory, and about 10% CPU Power.
I am using Mac OSX 10.3.9, and as for Java, I am not sure. How do I check for it?
Thanks.

Fo Java, launch Applications/Utilities/Terminal and at the prompt type:
java -version
(note the space between the 'java' and '-version' keyword)
then hit return
OsX will prompt for several lines of informations: note the java release

Thanks for the test result kokoblico.

Perhaps I didn't word my suggestion very well. Open LW & Activity monitor. (a) Make a note how much VM LW is using "before" you do anything with LW. (b) Then do a search. Make a note of how much VM LW has used after the search finishes. (c) Then go back & make a note of how much VM has been used 10 mins after that without doing any searches. Is there any difference between (a), (b) & (c) amounts of VM? (d) Make another note 10 mins after (c) & see if there's any difference.

Which version of LW are you using? You can find out by going to apple menu bar, click on the Limewire name next to the apple icon in the far left corner & choose About LW. This will tell you which version.

Thanks for the Java instructions.
Here is what I found out I have regarding the Java.

java version "1.4.2_09"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_09-233)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-56, mixed mode)

As for the Memory activity, I am still doing the research.
I am using LimeWire Pro 4.10.5 Java 1.4.2_09 according to the "About LimeWire"

Default Deparate help needed!

Hi,
I am not sure if I am going about this correctly, but I can only get the information once LimeWire starts up, and here it is:
9%CPU, 70MB Real Memory, 550MB Virtual Memory. It stays at that level even when the search starts. When it shuts down, LimeWire no longer appears in the Activity Monitor Window.

Please help! It is really frustrating! I am unable to work!

thanks.

Well your problem doesn't seem to be what affected me then. It seems more like a system issue.

Make a note of all your LW settings, as if you try what I suggest, you'll need to reset them. ie: apple (command) key & comma.

Might I suggest, trashing LW. Then go to OSX HDD, open Library folder, open Receipts folder, find Limewire.pkg & trash; Receipts folder sample image

Also delete LW's preferences found here /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Then redownload pro (I presume you have your personal downld page bookmarked, right.) Then reinstall LW. Don't let it start immediately after installing! Then reboot whilst holding down the SHIFT key until you see a window saying SAFE Booting. Then after startup, go to Utilities folder, open Disk Utility & Repair permissions. Then reboot normally. Then start LW.

If this doesn't fix it, then we'll need to look at other possible causes. Do you have a lot of shared files? Do you have a lot of incomplete files? If you have 1,000 or more incomplete files then it might be worth considering doing this Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!

Default strange...but it works for now!

Hi to all,
For some odd reason, the last time I opened LM, which was about 2 days ago now, until this moment, it has not shut down!
What I did was to just delete the incomplete files, and just started all over again. That seems to have done the trick for now.
who knows what will happen tomorrow! Will keep you posted.
I appreciate all your help.
