My connection keeps shutting down
 

Hi all, this is my first post...

I have Limewire Pro on a G5 running OSX panther 10.3.9. I have an ADSL connection of 512 (in Limewire prefernces i have chosen 'Cable/DSL').

I have big trouble downloading: 95% of my attempts to download a file last only a few minutes on Turbo speed, then quickly my speed decreases until i get the message that there is no connection. It seems that my connection has completely shut down (although on rare occasions it last longer).
However, my desktop says that the connection is still working (the duration time is still moving), but safari can't connect and i cant close the connection! All i can do is restart the computer. i find i'm restarting every 5 minutes while trying to download with Limewire.

This was happening on Limewire Basic, but has become worse since upgrading to Lime-Pro a few days ago.

My download speed is usually around 20KB/s and never above 55 KB/s!!!

If i download more than one file, or do a search while dowloading it my connection crashes.

BTW, I have tried changing to other skins, as suggested in other threads, but i still have the same problem.

Hi DDC (and welcome)

THe ADSL modem might be having a problem handling all the connections, since Pro gives you more connections than the Basic.

Does it plug into the USB or Ethernet port of your G5? (the USB port is often the problem)

It's a USB modem - do you think i should upgrade to Ethernet? Obviously i'd like to find another solution (since its an pricey upgrade), but if you think this is the only way then i'll look into it.

Yes. Certainly worth a try. The DSL modems supplied by ISP's usually have both ports.

Unfortunately my moden seems to have only USB/ADSL, but i make the investment in a new modem and ethernet and will reply hear to say if it has worked (incase to is helpful to others).
