![]() Hi guys! we recently purchase a new G4 powerbook, and a netgear router with the intention of starting a little home network, with the our existing G4 eMac. We have been using LW for years now with no dramas on the eMac with a DSL connection. (ethernet) Having trouble now trying to set up the router and configuring the two machines to be able use LW and safari. Have read lots about port fowarding and firewall settings, and have tried to set it up correctly..but..... Safari will work fine searching the net untill u open LW (on either machine) then it says there is no internet connection. aslo LW seems to have trouble downloading more than 1 file at a time, whilst telling us that it has detected a firewall and still has turbocharged connection. have port fowarded port 6346 in the router settings and in the mac os firewall and have tried having mac os x's firewall on and off. any help will be greatly appreciated...have tried everything and am going crazy without LW!!! help! |

![]() I was of the impression Netgear supported UPnP which should mean no need for manual port forwarding. Depends on your model & firmware version I guess. If you manually port forward for one computer for LW, then you must do a separate port forward for the other computer using a different port if you want to use LW on both (eg: port 6346 for one & port 49123 for the other). Also, did you make sure you set up a static ip for OSX? Here's a couple of links that explain how to do it http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww01180p & also http://www.sonic.net/support/ss/mac/osx_staticip/ (ignore the domain servers in this example!) So if you didn't set up a static ip 1st, then you'll need to do the manual port forwarding from scratch & delete your previous effort. Alternatively, check out your UPnP options for your Netgear. Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) Remember also that if you're using LW on both, you'll be sharing bandwidth. So one LW on one computer may take more bandwidth than the other at times. lol ![]() |

![]() thanks for your quick reply.. bit im still struggling.. yep, our netgear router( WGR614 v6) supports UPnP..so have turned off manual port fowarding in LW and enabled it in the router settings..so is there no need to forward any LW ports now??? both machines have unique listen on ports in LW what about in the mac os x firewall settings? have tried having the firewall on and off..but with no succes either way yet..wat do u suggest??? have set up the firewall (when it's on ..i spose) to let port 6346 thru on both machines..should they both be letting thru the same port??? or should they be the listen on ports?? and have made both computers have their own static IP..cheers for those links..too easy really! umm but its still doing the same thing...i can download and search in LW (turbocharged connection) but as soon as i try to download a 2nd file it says ..needs more sources..and after it downloads the 1st file LW seems to loose connection.. and also if you open safari (or mail or MSN) up..it doesnt have a connection anymore..untill i reset the router and dsl modem.... and figured the bandwidth would be shared if both comps were using LW at the same time..but i dont see that happning all the time.. mac os x 10.4 on both machines..Dlink dsl modem (ethernet and airport) and the netgear WGR614 v6 router anymore suggestions?? thanks! |
