Same ole' 10.3.9 Limewire Problem...

Can someone help me please? I am on system 10.3.9 and i have Java1.4.2Update 2 installed and I also tried the latest update from Apple, JavaUpdateMacOSXv10.3.9
My Limewire still does the same thing... it begins to start, but then doesn't..
The Limewire intro never shows on my screen and the program never starts.
Any suggestions on how i can solve this problem? I've really tried going through these boards, with no luck. I would appreciate it.

The usual answer is re-installing Java & this one usually does the trick: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...update142.html
If it won't let you install it, then remove the java1.4.2update2.pkg from the receipts folder; Receipts folder sample image.

Also try deleting your LW preferences found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Also, if your LW is not installed onto your OSX HDD, then move the LW program folder to the OSX applications folder on the OSX HDD.

So i deleted that Java1.4.2Update2.dmg from my receipts folders, and it still won't let me install. I get to the "select a destination" screen and my hardrive has an exclaimation point on it and it says" there is no version to update.". (attached file of my receipts folder)

The path you stated to my LW prefs was "/Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire".. though there wasn't one there. There is one in the receipts folder in my hardrive, (see the pic attached)

And yes LW is installed on my hardrive applications folder.

Why won't it let me update the java if I threw it away. There is still a "java package" in there... (see pic)
This is such a pain... can you help further? This hasn't worked so far...
Thanks

You're the 2nd person in some hours with the identical issue. I don't understand why as this doesn't normally happen. In fact, you're the only 2 people I'm aware of who have had this issue. I wonder if it's got something to do with recent panther updates.

Did you empty the trash after removing the Java pkg file? I may need to ask some advice about this as I'm not so sure deleting the Java security updates also would be wise.

BTW did you see the sticky at the top of this section about the QuickTime bug issue stopping LW from opening?

Hum, normally you don't have to delete receipts to resintall software. Did you repaired your disk permissions before installing Java again (Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility). Also look at the console message (Utilities->Console) when the installtion fails and report it here.

Bonne chance!
