Limewire 'H' 'e' double hockey sticks... I am all updated. I have tried various posted ideas to no avail. I am not computer savvy though. Lime wire has downloaded. I have installed it in the harddrive. My problem is that when I try to open limewire and it begins to open, about the time it reads something about html it shuts down. Then, norton asks me if I want a port to not be allowed to be open. Strange, because usually it asks if I want a port closed. I turned off norton firewall and antivirus but the same thing happened with no port message. I am in hopes I can be helped. Last edited by Lukio; March 19th, 2006 at 01:38 PM. |

I just tried norton advice unsuccessfully There is no "configure" button when I open Norton firewall? I turned on file sharing in system preferences / sharing / services. I cannot use osx firewall because I have norton operating. I have not found any option to turn on the guntella firewall although norton keeps saying that the port that Limewire is operating is open and I choose to keep it open. The end result is that I have no Limewire. The application continues to shut down when loading html engine. |

I was under the impression Norton stop developing their firewall for OSX. Perhaps it's just Tiger they stopped developing it for. (I thought it wasn't totally compatible with Tiger 10.4) I presume you'll need to manually add limewire/gnutella to the firewall. You didn't specify an OS version so, check how to do it with OSX to get an idea for Norton's firewall; OSX Firewall settings for Tiger Did you also check this issue? QuickTime 7.0.4 bug stops LimeWire from opening! |

I am still trying to get it to work. I have followed all the steps that Lord of the Rings recommended. I am still unable to get Limewire to open. It Lists HTML and then shuts down still. Therefore, I went to finder and typed limewire and trashed all of that. I went system preferences/firewall and deselected grutella. Now, I went to the limewire site and downloaded basic. I am going to go into firewall and allow grutella and try again. I will post if this did or did not work in a moment. Oh, I also called applecare but they just told me that they did not handle application problems. They did show me how to get my firewall up and running after I uninstalled norton. This is old news though. |

I downloaded in safari... I am going to try and open it. The order I will do it will be install. Then apple icon / system preferences/ sharing / and select allow port for Grutella. Finally I will try to open it. Hopefully it works. |

!!! Well, I am still having the same problem. Nothing seems to help. What is going on here! I have installed an older version of quicktime. Uninstalled Norton and all related products. Turned on mac firewall. Only used safari instead of foxfire, or explorer. Restarted each time. Beat my head against a wall (sic). Talked to applecare. Visited all the above recommended sites (thanks Lord of the Rings: ). Still no luck. Someone please help me. |
