LimeWire for OS X is improperly packaged. The LimeWire 1.8 archives for OS X on your website and others is causing problems for many people. You're sending out a ZIP file with a SIT extension. Stuffit Expander and MagicMenu don't complain about it, but Stuffit Deluxe refuses to open it, saying that it's an unsupported format. If MagicMenu is set to use UNIX utilities for tar, bz2, gz, and zip files, that will cause problems too. The "install" application in the archive gets messed up, so when you try to launch it, it fails after just a second or two. LimeWire for Mac OS X needs to be distributed in a SIT archive with a SIT extension. The ZIP archive (even with a ZIP extension) has too many potential problems. |
they just forgot to set a creator for it... set it to SIT! ... and make sure you have lauch permissions... see my post re: stuffit file problem peace.. |
No, I know all about File/Creator types, and even after changing them Stuffit Deluxe still won't open the file. It needs to be fixed! This is one program I won't be using until they do. Cybrwolf |
I simply changed the extension to .zip and opened it with stuffit 6.5.1 unstuffed no problems. Thanks for the insights Cbrwolf :) |
