Default iTunes Issues.

Hi
I've just moved my iTunes Library to an external hard drive because it was clogging up far too much space on my hard drive.

It's all worked fine and my library works fine. I have however left the library file in it's original location.

But (and I thought this might happen) the music that I like to sample is not importing into iTunes anymore. What do I need to change? I've looked at both the iTunes and Limewire Pref's and just can't find what I'm missing...

see if this Apple tech note "Moving your iTunes Music folder" helps: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748

I *think* LW will go to the Location used by iTunes, so the article's idea might work.

If I can add since I did exactly the same thing. Go to iTunes prefs, Advanced tab, click on iTunes Music folder location options to change to external HDD. Then go to iTunes main menu, Advanced->Consolidate Library & that will copy all songs over to the new iTunes music library on the external HDD.

In order to copy songs to iTunes from LW, you should enable (turn on/mount) the external drive before you open LW.

BTW when I moved my iTunes library off my comp it was around 55-60 GB in size, now it's around 95 GB.
And "don't" fill your external drive more than about 75% full or else you will notice a dramatic change in reliability & speed!!!!!!

Yea, I did actually read the apple article before I moved the library - was a bit too scared I'd bugger something up so made sure I swatted first.

My new external hard drive is always on (well when my computer is) because I just switch the plug off when I've shut my computer down.

Am going to try again in a bit to see if I can get it working. If not, I'll just drag them over - no big deal when you've got apple's very very useful Spotlight!
