Default LW 12.4.3 pro/OSX 10.4 hangs incessantly

Hi there, have read all the posts on fixing hangs and download probs with LW 12.4.3 and OSX 10.4, it seems many users are experiencing similar problems. What happens with me is LW starts up OK, downloads at very slow speeds (1-2kb) then after a random period of time (always less than 1hr), unexpectedly hangs.

Have deleted the prefs file, changed ports, reinstalled, blah blah. My best guess is that Java1.5 doesn't exist for mac? Currently running J2SE5.0 on the 1.4.2 engine.

Didn't have these problems with LW 4.8. So my investment in the latest versioin is apparently money down the tube.

Any other suggestions? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks Hobo, I have previously checked this article and it wasn't helpful - J2SE 5.0 was already selected in preference to 1.4.2.

Does J2SE 5.0 = Java 1.5 for Windows ?

That aside, whatever I do with the Java prefs pane doesn't fix my problem.

Many thanks for your suggestion Hobo!

How how how to fix... installed lates java update for mac, have all the latest updates for Mac OS X, have deleted pref files for lime wire... still hangs. Only difference now is that average time to hang is no longer 10 minutes but about 30 min instead...

Default Same hanging problem after upgrade to Pro

I am having the same problem with hanging. I have OSX 10.4.7, powerbook 1.5, 512 ram, and have a few weeks ago upgraded to Limewire Pro. The hanging problem has only come about after I downloaded Pro. I get more download options which is good, but now I only get to download for less than an hour at a time before it stops doing anything and I have to force quit it. I have rarely more than 15 downloads incompleted, maybe half that trying to download at any one time. So... why is Pro turning out to be a waste of money???

Try these 2 things:

1. Close LimeWire. Delete the LW preferences folder found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire
(Note: next time you open LW you will need to reset all your options so make a note of any important settings. )

2. Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! & apply it to files that are zero % downlded & less than 50 KB.

I followed the directions into the LimeWire folder; however, it contained nothing titled preferences. Can I do something via LimeWire in its preferences option?

The folder is not called preferences ... the main parent folder is called preferences. The folder you want to delete is called limewire.

Hi,

I have done exactly (I think) what you recommend (J2SE 5, preferences and incomplete files) but I have still the same problem after around 30 minutes of use.
Do you khow easy it is to go back to the non Pro version ? Would I loose the download that I have not finished yet ?

Thanks

I have had the latest version of limewire freeZe up totally also..

I turned OFF the screen saver, and that seems to have done the trick.
"Start Screen saver ...5....10....... --> Never"

Previously, I would move the mouse to the HOT corner I had chosen to
Disable the Screen Saver... that would cause it to freeze up...
