Default Limewire works in Windows but not Mac?

Hi,

I have two computers in my house on the same wireless network (one pc and one mac). Lime wire works fine on the pc but when I use the same port on the mac I can't connect. I have the firewall disabled on the mac and can't figure it out. Any ideas?

Thanks

System details - help us to help you (click on link)

Is your router using UPnP or port forwarding. I suspect the same port use is the issue. On the mac, try changing the listening port to another higher one between 49152 - 65535. Try port 64049. ie: go to LW's prefs, Advanced > FIrewalls & change listening port. Then reboot the mac if you've been using LW on the pc.

I don't know about UPnP on mac, but I do know if I've used a program using one port & try to use the same port for another app then it seems to refuse the connection. So I thus forward a port for each program & each LW. That seems the only way.

Sorry,

I am using port forwarding...

1. OS version? Tiger OS X 10.4.6
2. What firewalls you have? None...just on the router
3. How much ram? 1G DDR2
4. Hard Disk space available? 200GB
5. Connection type? Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Motorola SBG900
7. Where are you trying to connect from? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? 4.12 / 1.5
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? 'Your test worked!'
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Each computer connects via a wireless card to the router.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 1st try on this computer
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

Is your Motorolla set up to use UPnP? Telnet into your motorolla using http://192.168.100.1 to check.

Do you also see the brick wall on your windows machine?

This is my suggestion, port forward for each computer. You'll need to do it "from" each computer because port forwading is based on their ip address on the network. And each computer will "need" a different port number to use for LW. Port Forwarding for the Motorola SBG 900

Static ip instructions for OSX are (a) http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=aww01180p or
use (b) http://www.sonic.net/support/ss/mac/osx_staticip/ (ignore the Domain boxes)

So what ports to use? For windows, use port 6346. For mac you could use port 64049.

You should restart both LW's after the port forwarding process. Make sure you save your settings in the motorolla. Some devices you need to reboot them to properly save the settings & get them into action. Not sure about yours.

ok,

I followed the steps above but when I changed my network settings from "Using DHCP" to "Manually" I lost my internet connection. I took the IP address generated using DHCP and entered it along with the port in the port forwarding section of my router but I sill can't connect?

Contact your isp tech support & see what they suggest about settings. Particular isp's may be specific as to what they require for such settings. And be sure they allow static ip's.

I have configured the port 6346 on the firewall built in to the modem/router for the mac to be allowed. I also changed the listening port as suggested. Still getting connecting to network on Leopard machine. The system prefs>security>firewall is configured to all connections.
