Default "Need More Sources", after 10 seconds of "Connecting..", every file, every time!

My limewire doesn't work at all!! I came across the same problem a month or two ago, but when I upgraded my limewire, the problem disappeared.. for about a week, before coming back again! Today, I deleted all files related to limewire, and limewire itself, then re-installed it, hoping that this might sort the problem out. It hasn't. I have also looked over some previous problems posted in this forum. I read about the 'fake files' possibly being responsible for the 'need more sources' dilemma, and tried to download a file that was from only 23 servers, that failed, so I tried 15, and when that failed I tried a file from one server. Nothing works, I have the same problem with every file. Also, when I hover over one of the little icons at the bottom, it says "limewire has detected a firewall".. I don't know what that means and if that could be the problem, or if it's relevant at all? I can only download "cable/DSL" files, if that is of any relevance? Also, I am using limewire 4.12 (basic), on an iMac that is almost 5 years old. I think it's a G3, it's one of the ones that is sort of see-through, coloured along the sides, and doesn't have a tower.
Please help!! This is becoming very annoying for me so any advice anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated!?

Try downlding an audio or video file from the magnet site http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml & tell us what happens re: connecting & speeds.

Who is your ISP?

Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Sample image: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1162908502

Which OSX version are you running?

When I tried to download an audio file from that website it said "needs more sources", and nothing else, except "? KB", under 'size'.
My ISP is NTL.
Yes, I see a brick wall in world of a blue world!
I am running OSX version 10.3.9.

Hmm that isn't good at all. AFAIK NTL is supposed to be one of the few ISP's in the UK who don't shape p2p bandwidth or block p2p programs.

Is your OSX firewall turned on? If yes, then you should configure it OSX Firewall settings for Tiger (click on link).

What brand & model of modem/router are you connected through?

Do you see all green connection bars or are some red at the bottom of LW's window?

Try one of the video files from the magnet site.

I think my firewall was off, and then I put a tick in the box "iTunes Music Sharing" and then it said that it was on. Then I followed the instructions that you gave me, then started limewire and it still didn't work.
Now, I've just tried to download one of the magnet video files and after being queued for a second or two it worked!! It is downloading from 3 hosts at 187 KB/s. I tried a magnet music file again, and immediately it said that it needed more sources. Maybe the problem is only when downloading music? Also the green bars at the bottom LW are always all green, with a very strong connection. I am connected through an apple modem.

Hi,
concerning firewalls, of course your built in mac FW may be properly configured to let LimeWire get through (by the way, normally, I believe LW can fiddle its way through a FireWall, by him self and like a big boy), but sometime, they are other stops one doesn't think of.
Of course, Net Barrier is a proper FireWall, so as Peerguardian, but aren't you running by any chance "LittleSnitch", which prevent any outgoing communication (for example from any app "phoning home")...
and also some time, an Antivirus, I know we don't use many of them regularly on our macs, and mostly only for the sake of friends running windows, but that one reason that some time we forgot about them, and when they run, they act as a sort of firewall... Of course, depending of your ISP (not talking of the ones filtering knowingly the P2P... I had one like that [free.fr] that I booted out, telling him why!), you may also have the ISP firewall and, some time the ISP's router to configure.
I'm now with "Orange", and the modem ("LiveBox") is also a router. I removed on start it's firewall, and then still had some fun to connect my clients (LimeWire, eDonkey and Ants), before I realised that there was a router with the "LiveBox"... If that's the case, you only need to enter the port your are using with LimeWire (it is the same one for TCP and UDP) by the way I've read somewhere that it is better not to use the default port of Limewire, and to change it in the prefs, so I'm using 46169...
Good luck

Yes that's right ... sometimes it is fruitful using a different port to the default 6346. Such as any of the unused ports in range 49152 - 65535. Port 64049 is often a good one to use. To change port in LW, go to LW's preferences, Advanced>Firewalls & change listening port & perhaps also connection port. If you use your OSX firewall then you should change the port listed for limewire/gnutella.

Hi,
I'm not quite sure of what you mean, since the "?" at the end... unless it is a "?" into your mind about all that.
anyway, if you mean that you've tried all that without succes...
maybe there is something there, to do with your ISP...
I do remember, when I was with an other ISP, for a while LimeWire was still able to connect (oftens indicating though, the presence of a firewall), but was also very oftens unable to download or upload... and so went from connecting to waiting for sources or needing more sources, and back to waiting for sources... of course, that also, is the normal behaviour when the file is rare, say, only one source, and that source is gone to sleep or to the loo or whatever it's going to... but then, obviously, when you choose a well represented file, there aint any problem anymore, and everything goes fine again.
When the ISP is responsible, it woudn't change...
May be you should see for your ISP's reputation on the net, there are such sites... unfortunately, I don't know anymore their address... maybe a google search... or someone here having the datum.

Smile Limewire-download very slow

Hello,

I have a Mac PowerBook G4 - version 10.4.8.

I used to use the Basic Limewire, which was downloading very slowly, from 0KB/s to 4KB/s (maximum). Normally it is 2 and 3KB/s, and just one of the files. If I have more files to download, they stay in a "need more sources", "waiting for busy hosts" and "waiting in line..." state.

So, I decided to upgrade to Limewire Pro, because it would be faster, according to the advertisement. Nothing happened, the annoying waiting remains. If I need to use the internet..., forget it. I noticed that even when I quit Limewire, the internet works, but slower than it used to be.

I know Limewire is very good, and the problem must be in somewhere relating to the connection. So, I followed the steps from "dsoslglece" and "Lord of the Rings" using Port 64049 (thank you, by the way!). Nothing changed.

Does anyone know what is going on? Does someone can help me? Could be some conflicting matter?

Thank you!
