burning to dvd on Mac OSX

Most every download that comes up is from avi, whatever that is anyways I burn it to a dvd and it doesn't play back on my dvd player. I have Mac OSX. Is there a certain dvd brand I should be using or a program that will let it play back? Please I am so annoyed with this.:bangh:

What program are you using to burn to dvd? The disk needs to be burnt as dvd-video format UDF. Otherwise if it's in data format, only some dvd players can play them. You'd need a program like Toast Titanium to do a proper job as the avi file needs to be converted before the burning process. Video DVD's use MPEG-2 format & are multiplexed formatted.
