Default "The Application Limewire Quit Unexpectedly" Message

Hello - I am brand new here and have never posted anywhere in any forum, so I hope I haven't gotten in the wrong thread or started a new one when I shouldn't or whatever. I tried to contact Limewire and they have not replied.

I keep getting the Application quit message and I don't know why.

First I will tell you my setup:
1. OSX 10.4.10
2. Firewalls? I don't know
3. 640 mb SDRAM
4. 20.98 available
5. Not sure: running wireless from a wired connection to a pc downstairs
6. The router (downstairs) is an Actiontec GT704WG
7. Upstairs in a house
8. Limewire 4.14.0 Pro
Java 1.3.1 Plug in settings version 10.0.2
Java 1.4.2 Plug in settings 11.5.0 (both Java updated 09/14/07)
9. Verizon
10. says ok
11. 2 windows desktops and 1 windows laptop all running xp
12. This is a new problem. I used to run Limewire both reg and pro on an old beige g3 all-in-one giant tooth with about 860mb of a 4 gig hd avail and never had any problems.
13. yes I see the wall
14. Don't know
15. No security
16. USA

For some other info, I am running an iMac 500 MHz G3 processor and iTunes 7.4.2 (4)

I also wrote myself a note when I was going to post last week, but I have no clue what it refers to that I was checking on my computer. I wrote Firewall on -- Network time --- OVS --- Gnutella Limewire.

Here is some more background. As I said, I used to run Limewire on my old G3. Then, for about a year and a half, I didn't have a mac. I was using the one Dell with XP running Limewire: no problem. Then, in September I inherited my girlfriend's iMac. My sister-in-law brought it up to speed with an airport card and more ram, etc. I hooked it up approx Sept 14 and, of course, had to get lw right away, so I did... and I was able to search and download without any problems at all. Then a couple of weeks went by and I started getting the app quit message --- after the tips of the day load and after it says turbo charged. When I close out the tips window -- that's when the msg appears. But wait, there's more. I kept trying to get on and sometimes I could and sometimes I couldn't. It seemed that later at night I had more luck... but then it just kept quitting.

After that, I did something that I have since learned from reading your forums is really dumb: I bought Limewire Pro. I thought maybe it would be a better connection or run better if I bought it. No go.

So, if anyone out there can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Although I am not a newbie or totally stupid, if you could dumb it down for me I would appreciate it. Thanks so much!!

Also make sure UPnP is enabled on the Actiontec, otherwise that may be the cause of the firewall (if not your osx firewall.)

If possible, free up space on the system drive. With OSX 10.4 you can move "some" programs to other drives without problems. All applications including the system use VM (Virtual Memory), & LW uses a lot of VM. VM = uses HDD space to temporarily store memory.

Default Thank you!

I checked Java and I was at 1.5. Then I took out the TLS and ultrapeer as suggested, then I deleted the limewire preferences folder. I then opened Limewire and it set up pref again and what do you know!!! I am on lw right now!! What would cause the prob to come up and if it does do it again should I follow the same steps? Btw, i did not get to the step where I would have to change the settings for the router, but for future reference if i have to, should i do it from my computer that is having the lw problem thru the wireless router or from the computer that is hooked up directly to the actiontec? Thanks for your help! You rock!

Almost all wireless devices have internal firewalls. Just be sure UPnP is enabled on it. Otherwise port forwarding is more reliable.

Yes .. anything to reduce drag on LW & the system. Such as clearing unneeded incompletes, perhaps deleting LW prefs. etc.
