Won't shut down

I have a problem when I close down Limewire. It won't shut down. Tells me to wait and stays that way. I try to force quit and it still won't. When I shut down my computer and next time I start it up , it's still there. Please help?

Go to LW's Preferences/options under the LW icon next to apple icon at top of menu bar. (keyboard shortcut: ,) Go to Shutdown/System Tray & choose to shut down immediately. Press apply. If that doesn't work, try pausing your downloads before shutting down. BTW are you downloading bitorrents or just gnutella files? I have has the same issue myself but doesn't happen all the time.

there is a way...but it takes a few clicks:
ctr + alt + dlt - then task manager (some PCs will go straight to the task manager)
then IF limewire is there RIGHT click it and press "go to process". Once there, it should have highlighted its process. RIGHT click it and press "end process"
This is the BEST way to close a non responsive program
If LW isnt there, then go directly to the process list (by pressing the processes list) and search for the limewire image name. Then there u should be able to end process itself. If you cant find it...u should be looking for the name "LimeWire.exe"
If that dosnt work...sorry u might need to uninstall/then reinstall LW

Good suggestion. :) But the process is different for mac OSX. And he also said he used the equivalent process to force quit the program. ;)
I am not sure if the problem is java related or something else, as Mac's version of Java is not as good as the versions other OS's use since mac designs their own java. :)

I've been having the same problem. I tried your suggestions and nothing worked.

It seems like whenever I force-quit the application, it doesn't work correctly the next time I start it up. I'll search for something and I'll get zero results. I even tried searching for something mega popular, like Fergie, *gag* but nothing came up.

I'm not sure what else to try. Maybe I should fully uninstall/reinstall? That wouldn't be a big deal since I don't have a ton of downloaded music. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Wont shut down

Hey Papersky,
I did what Lord of the Rings said to do.
That worked for me. So simple.
I was also told another way that's easy too, if you have a MAC.
I haven't a clue on how to shut it down in Windows.
But it's brutal when it happens.
All the best.
Cullen.

if anyone can help i'd really appreciate it, i'm new to limewire pro and when i shut it down it closes but when i look at it in task manager it tells me limewire.exe is still running. i'm only sharing about 400 files and the process or the process tree wont shut down, anyone with any advice? thank you

Lord of the Rings July 6th, 2008 03:37 PM

oops this is the mac osx section, not windows. ;) My advice is (1) Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link).

(2) if still problems closing then force quit it using the task manager.

(3) Make a note of all settings & then -> Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) For VISTA see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html
