Default How can i relocate the INCOMPLETE FOLDER?

Hello =]

first of all, I am running LimeWire 4.16.6 on Mac OS X Leopard.

and then my question:
LimeWire puts, by default, the "Incomplete" folder on my "iMac HD/Users/Home" folder.
What I want to do is this: change the location of the "Incomplete" folder to, let's say, the "Applications/LimeWire" folder.. so that it doesn't clutter my Home folder.

how can I do this?

well thanks a lot for any help!
=]

Generally using the Applications folder for downloads is not a good idea (/Applications is available to all users on the machine).

However, try setting your download folder ("Shared" or whatever you want to name it) in, say, the /Music, or /Documents folder. The Incomplete folder is usually created in the same folder as the Shared.

So, setting the location of the Shared folder should reset the location of the Incomplete folder.

This was a great question by the OP...

However, the tricky part of the question isn't answered enough for me:

What if you have like twenty files waiting to be downloaded, and several are partially downloaded, (and for the sake of argument lets say these are large files that are just trickling in...) is it possible to move the folder and then change the preferences such that you don't loose any of the partially downloaded files?

Thanks!

Well--not when LW is running.

Otherwise, there is a chance that Yes, it can be done . . . but is risky. Different versions of LW had ways of storing the incomplete info, and so not worth the chance of messing up the prefs. So, I'd say wait until the downloads are completed before doing the move.

Typically the prefs look for the incomplete folder in the same directory as the saved folder. So, as long as the incomplete folder (and contents) are where they are expected, downloads will resume.

Stief:

Thought that might be the case...hoped.

Had run into this situation, whether wanting to switch to another partition/folder/ etc.. this is really a shame when you've got say 150 MB of a 600 MB file that comes in sporadically or at a trickle.

Good lesson:

Plan ahead as much as possible, locate download & incomplete folders where you've got a lot of room, and ideally not on the startup partition if at all possible (especially if you don't have alot of free space).

THANKS
