1. Try reinstalling Java. ie: Go to apple website & get the manual standalone offline installer. If problems installing, go to Receipts folder & remove last Java 5 (1.5) version listed; Receipts folder sample image. I've a suspicion there's something wrong with the online installation of Java. But we can only try things to find out if this is the case. Also, do a safe boot & repair permissions after installing; SAFE Boot & Repair Permissions which should be done after installing any new software/updates.

3. Another alternative I can think of that has worked for some windows users is ... install FrostWire, open it & see if it connects. If yes, close it down. Then try opening LW again. Tell us if this works.

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd post my results since I didn't see one after the last thread on what to do and post back.

I can not connect with my Mac OSX 10.4 LW Pro 4.94 eMac 1.42 Motorola Surfboard modem, max ram, 5 gb hd left, road runner cable, no router, not sharing connection, went to http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. I rebuilt permissions (but not in safe mode) a week ago after Safari crash problem and Flash update. No antivirus. New problem experienced user in California.

Downloaded FrostBite, (as suggested here for testing) installed it...went to open it and it wouldnt open
Went to Frostbite Community they said you need JSE 5.0 which I have but in the Utility folder I had to change to preference to JSE 5.0 from Java 1.42*after doing that Frostbite opened with 4 connects.

Went to launch LW and all attempting connections drop after 5 seconds, same thing it was doing for making JSE change.
Tried changing ports nothing. Tried Manual start up nothing. There is a brick wall present behind LW Icon but I've never had a firewall and the one automatic on my eMac has always been disabled...I think cause I've never enabled it...and LW had always worked before and I know I have done anything firewall related since I bought the computer.

I couldn't connect with Drumbeat either, which is why I went to use LW and discovered this problem.....

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nas

Assuming your ISP isn't blocking connections, likely your gnutella.net file (/Preferences list of IP's to try) is corrupted or loaded with bad hosts.

See if replacing the file works. LimeWire Forums
