LimeWire Not Connecting, No Search Results Hi, I had LimeWire for a while on my PowerBook G4 and it worked great. Recently, I did a complete erase and re-install of Mac OS X. I've updated all of the software, etc. I downloaded LimeWire but couldn't open it (received a Java error). I then updated my Java to 1.5 and now LimeWire opens but I can't seem to connect. I tried searching, but receive no results. I checked the "Connections" tab but that tab is totally blank. I have a Firewall on the Mac (built-in) but I checked Sys Preferences and the Firewall is off, although the icon on the LimeWire window shows the brick wall in front of the globe. I have file sharing off, but I don't think this should keep LW from connecting...? Any help or advice would be great. Thank you. |

I also have similar problems now. A few hours ago a box popped up telling me a new version of limewire was available. i didnt want to update because i liked the older version i was using. (( i do believe it was 4.12 )) but the little box didnt give you an option! it said that if you closed it it would download on its own later.. so i figured it would b easier to just download it then and save my computer the trouble of screwing up after continuous pop ups from limewire. the upload went smoothly enough, but now i find nothing appears when i search for songs! instead i get some stupid warning at the top that says "only search results with a *insert lock picture here* are official limewire communications. yeh.. ok.. i dont care.. now why arent any songs showing up !? I search the artists , songs, and detailed artist-song titles... but nothing is coming up! and its very annoying! can you please fix this or make it possible to download old systems again but in a continued way ??? |

Hi tapgirl Should work. Have you tried the safe boot? Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode Once safe boot is finished, restart your computer normally and try LW again. |

As for zero results, check these links: (a) Problems with the search, ___ (b) Hostiles List. These will help prevent (a) connecting to dud ultrapeers, (b) help block out known spammers who flood search results with junk or fake files. If still no good, try disconnecting LW for 5-10 mins & try again, keeping an eye on your LW Connections window to be sure you are not connecting to same ultrapeers each time if you are still having problems. Do this several times if problem persists. If still no good, try deleting your LW prefs folder whilst LW is CLOSED; Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX. Then repeat (a) & (b) above. If still problems after that, please supply these details: System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) |

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I tried booting in safe mode, then restarting, then trying LW again, but still the same problems as above. When I try to search, it says that "LW is connecting to the network" and I may not get search results until it is connected, but it never seems to connect. On the bars on the bottom, there is one grayed out bar (smallest) and four red ones. The Connections window is always blank (should there be anything there?). I also tried deleting the Preferences folder and re-starting LW, but still no effect. Here is the other info: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98): Mac OS X 10.4.11 2. What firewalls you have? System Firewall, but it is disabled 3. How much ram? 1 GB (maximum) 4. Hard Disk space available? 60 GB 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Cable 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Motorola Cable Modem SB5101 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.14.10 and Java 1.5 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Cox Communications 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? "your test worked" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. LW used to work on this computer, but I recently erased and re-installed OS and updated software versions; since then LW is not working 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes, but in SyS Preferences is shows that firewall is off 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? ???? 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall None 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). United States Any other help out there? I really need this to work! |

I Have The Same Problems/settings I did NOT reinstall everything, I just opened limewire for the first time in months. Now, I can't connect, it says I am behind a firewall when I am not. All of the fixes are aimed at WIndows users and us mac users don't have the options to fix the problem. I have Comcast not Cox. I keep putting 6346 inot the port and LW auto changes it after restart. I just paid to upgrade and can't connect...not very fair.PLEASE post a work around for Mac users. Apparantly, Comcast is also now blocking connection to lime wire. They did an update 3 days ago ( I know b/c I lost connection for 5 min and my hubby's PC no longer connects since then) and probably added a firewall on their end that day. |
