Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. "Sticking" Issue While Searching I am not sure how to decribe my issue, but I am going to try and see if someone will be able to help me. First of all, I got a new Mac with Leopard operating system. I have been using Limewire, but how do I know I have the Mac version and not the Windows version installed? I am used to only having PC so I am not sure how to check this on Mac. When I open Limewire after a few searches it starts to "stick". I hit "enter" or search after I enter my song and it does not show up in the toolbar at the top of the Limewire program. I go back to "search" and see it still sitting in the field so I click again...nothing and then finally about the 3rd or 4th time it works. What's going on with this? SOmetimes if I shut it off and reload it it stops for a little while, only to restart doing that again. Then when it finally does show up in the "toolbar of searches that are in progress" there are three of them and only the third search starts to list songs found. So can someone help me out with this? The second issue is that my fiance and I use the same computer. I have all the music go into iTunes from limewire directly after a download, which is great for me, but he logs on as a different user...I want him to be able to use the songs as well, but only the ones he wants..... not all of them. Is there a way to do this so that when he logs on he can get all my songs as well without uploading them every time and then having doubles of songs or tripples and having to go through thousands of songs to delete them? Any tips with this would be helpful. Thanks! |

Try these things: 1. Delete your LW prefs folder whilst LW is CLOSED. See instructions here: Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX. Be sure to make a note of all your settings before you do this because next time you open LW you will need to re-set your download location, speed, etc. 2. (a) Problems with the search, __ (b) Hostiles List 3. Go to preferences / options & check that searches are set to more than one, both upload & download slots are set to 1 or more. Also see Cant download at all - nothing happens when I click download (click on link) To find out the version of a program on a mac, go to the program icon at top left of screen next to the apple icon. Choose About LW ... Under same menu you will find your preferences options. Keyboard shortcut is ⌘ , for most mac programs. The iTunes issue is a tough one. Generally each user has their own set of iTunes music list when the same location is used for iTunes Music Library (a particular file that will tell iTunes which files to show for the user logged in at the time). Shared LW playlists work on a LAN network but won't work when two users are logged in at different times on same computer. The hard solution I can think of which I have done for myself in different accounts is, log into his account, re-add those songs you wanted to add for him from the iTunes Music library folder (not re-adding from LW download folder!) To do this is a little mucky as you will need to arrange your itunes music folder via date modified & then check thru the most recent added & choose those you wish to share with him. (You can also add folders.) To add them to his iTunes, open iTunes in his account, then drag & drop your selective files/folders into the Library icon at top of iTunes playlist. This is not a pretty approach but it seems to work. You could also ask this same question on the iTunes forums: iPod - iPhone - iTunes Forums at iLounge |

In addition to LOTR's ideas, here are a couple more for both users to access downloads. All users on the same OS X machine have access to the hard drive's Users/Shared folder. So, if the Users/Shared folder is selected as your LW download folder, he'll be able to access your downloads. Or . . . click once on your current download folder, Get Info (cmd-i), and in the Ownership and Permissions section->Group, select his username and give him read/write access. He can then navigate to the folder, or make an alias which he could put wherever he wants, or just drag it onto the sidebar of any of his navigation windows. |

Sticking after Leopard install I upgrated my OSX to Leopard and now see the same sticking problem as you, which didn't happen before the upgrade. Also, Limewire fails to monitor download progress–the download indicator stays uniformly blue. Another thing that's happened to me is that under Leopard my search results have become exceedingly narrow. A search under "audio" media will only result in .mp3 files–any .wav or .aiff ones (which I prefer) aren't found, unless I add that to my search criteria. For example, if I search for [Edit] I'd type: [Edit] and 'positively' and find any shared .mp3 songs. But to find lossless .wav or .aif versions, I have to specifically search [Edit] and 'wav'. I also have an older Mac with OSX 10.4 (not Leopard) and don't experience any of the sticking problems or narrow search issues described. Edited to comply with the House Rules. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form.[/color] Last edited by ursula; April 16th, 2008 at 01:54 PM. |
