After speaking to a mac technician, upgrading to Leopard can be thwart with problems. He recommended:

1. Archive Install. ____ Else, 2. Back up all your files, reformat, clean install, then re-incorporate your personal files.

A simple upgrade from an earlier OSX to Leopard can result in internet browser & other problems. eg: unable to access your previous popular sites with your browser. And other issues.

This thread is simply intended as a consideration for those have or are intending to upgrade their OSX to Leopard, not as a hard & fast rule.

Chances are that if you follow the above advice, you will not have any problems running & connecting with LW.

I second that advice and repeat: 'Archive Install' is the best way to go!
Some of the 'connectivity' problems may disappear after the 'Leopard' 10.5.1 update.

How would one archive install?

and find a tech at your local computer shop or in the ads in the newspaper or somebody VERY computer-savvy, to configure it for you. lt isn't simple. The 1st time takes a while, especially if you have a lot of settings, but after you can do it
in a shorter time, yourself, as long as you DRAG THE ICON TO THE TRASH AND IT SAYS 'EJECT' AND DISAPPEARS. Otherwise, the hard drive and all the time and $$ will be lost and you need to start over from the start with another hard drive ($75) + the time- yours a,nd the experts. lf you don't know how to 'drag' learn how!'

You're essentially 'packing up' your old system folder and create/install a fresh 'new' one.
Check the 'Help'-menu for 'Archive & Install' for important info!

Back up any important files to another hard drive, or a DVD, etc!

1.Insert the Mac OS 'Leopard' Install Disc and double-click the Install Mac OS 'Leopard' icon.


2. Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select the destination disk, select your current Mac OS X disk (your hard drive) (in most cases, it will be the only one available).


3.Click Options. If you want to save your existing files, users, and network settings, select “Archive and Install,” and then select “Preserve Users and Network Settings.” If you want to erase everything on your computer and reinstall Mac OS X, select “Erase and Install.” You can’t recover erased data.


4. Click Continue.


5. Click Customize to select which parts of Mac OS X you’d like to install, or click Install to perform a basic installation (recommended).

After this procedure, you'll find an 'old system' folder on your hard drive.
You can then manually transfer your old preference settings (software registrations, etc.) to your new system. NOTE: Be sure to put those old settings in the same location in your new system folder (usually the 'Library' folders).
