All looks normal, so you should be able to connect after a while (the connections may be having trouble finding spots for many new users).

If problems persist and your ISP says connections are allowed to the gnutella network, then try replacing your gnutella.net file. Instructions are here: Replacing gnutella.net file on Mac OSX

I have the exact same issue with the same information you have. I downloaded a few files two days ago and now it won't connect. I deleted the LW folder in the users preferences folder and still doesn't connect.:bangh:

This is LW version 4.14.12 Pro

msanta December 26th, 2007 07:48 PM

Open PeerGuardian if it's not open, go to file, select enable or disable filters....

I have been reading the post for the last few days and I'm am having a similar problem. I have read about replacing the gnutella.net file. The problem is that all of instruction to do this is for windows users. Is this action capable of being done on a mac running OS X 10.5.1

msanta December 27th, 2007 10:29 PM

Yes, go to users>preferences>Limewire Folder.

The gnutella.net file resides in the Limewire folder inside your user's preference folder.:laugh_2:

Hi Gnutellians...
I can confirm that copying a new gnutella.net file worked in my case. The file location in OS x 10.5.1 is Users>(user-name)>Preferences>Limewire.

We upgraded from Windows XP to a new MacBook with OS x 10.5.1. Limewire had been working for a long time - but no joy on the MacBook. I copied the gnutella.net file from our old XP machine to the MacBook and things worked right away. I noticed that the gnutella.net file on the MacBook was an empty - zero-length - file. Looks like something in the current Limewire download can't handle that empty file.

Limewire administrators -(IMHO) I suggest this should be the first thing to try for this problem, since it is a pretty benign change and only applies to gnutella/limewire. Other fixes suggested here - deleting Java runtimes, changing router configurations - are more risky and can adversely impact other applications.

replace gnutella.net file

Hello,

The Forum says to try replacing the gnutella.net file to solve connection problems. OK, I see the file in Users\"user name"\Libray\Preferences\LimeWire\, now where can I get a new/clean copy of gnutella.net to replace it with?

msanta January 5th, 2008 03:27 PM

Click on the following link:

gnutella file

The link to download the file is half way that page...:xeri_ok1ani:

Or specifically OSX see Replacing gnutella.net file on Mac OSX

How do I find the file location "OS x 10.5.1 is Users>(user-name)>Preferences>Limewire."? I am new to Mac sorry. I went Users>(My User Name)> but no preferences. Where else can it be?

Why don't I have a preferences folder?

msanta January 12th, 2008 07:42 AM

When you open your hard drive, there is a folder named "users", open this folder, inside this folder you'll see your "user", open that , go to the "library" folder and in the library folder you'll see your preferences folder.

HD>users>"your user">Library folder>Preferences folder>Limewire folder

I just downloaded and installed limewire 5.1.4. Running a G4 Powerbook with Mac OS 10.5.7. I installed limewire and the installation says it was installed and complete.
I double click in the limewire alias on the desktop and nothing happens.
I tried opening from the file menu, limewire still doesn't open.

I had downloaded and installed Limewire about a month ago and it never worked. I didn't have to time to deal with trying to get it to work, so I left it.
Today I deleted the limewire folder from the applications prior to downloading the newest version.

Not a Mac wiz here, can anyone help.
I looked for the gnutella file like they suggest from a couple of years back, but couldn't locate limewire preferences.
PLEASE help.
Thanks

hi d57rock :) Unfortunately LW 5 is not compatible with G4's. The computer needs to be an intel. This is due to intel's 64-bit design so it can install Java 1.6 which LW 5 requires & Java 1.6 for OSX was only made for 64-bit computers (thus only intel computers.)

See point #1 here about getting LW 4.16: Downgrading to LimeWire 4 from 5 & resuming incomplete downloads :) I use LW 4.16 myself & find it a great version. ;)

d57rock August 2nd, 2009 03:43 PM

thanks lord of the rings,
I can't seem to even locate the
MacOSX: _ OSX -> Users -> Account Name -> Library -> Preferences -> LimeWire.

there is no sign of limewire in the preferences file in the library.
Can I just install the LW4 and trash the install of the LW5 I previously installed.
Nothing at all runs when I click on the LW5 version.
Am I missing something here?
I appreciate your help.

Lord of the Rings August 2nd, 2009 04:06 PM

You will need to delete two files: (1) LW 5 program from applications folder, & (2) OSX -> Library -> Receipts -> install limewire.pkg

If you don't remove the file from the receipts folder, the system will not let you install an earlier LW version. Normally receipt files should not be touched, but this is an exception.

Lord Of the Rings,
Thanks for your help. I was able to delete the LW5 and the receipts file and then install LW 4.16.
Great to have someone out there that knows there stuff.
Thanks again.
