Teh Blank | December 18th, 2007 11:21 AM | DOS Mode Help!!! I can't open anything i download, it opens textedit with a message at the top saying that the file can't be run in DOS Mode - i didn't even tell it to run in DOS Mode - what do i do? |
Lord of the Rings | December 19th, 2007 10:29 PM | Configure your program you use to help use Windows. For some reason it is not being run in OSX, probably due to your configuration of that windows assistant program. I don't have an intel mac yet so can't test this out. Try to keep your windows & mac files separate. Personally I'd keep them on separate drives/partitions. |
*Heather* | May 9th, 2008 05:34 PM | I am having the same issue. I just got a Macbook and am really lost so I'm not sure how to go about fixing this "will not run in dos mode" stuff. |
Lord of the Rings | May 9th, 2008 05:52 PM | What are you downloading? What are the file types and extensions? If they are .exe files then they are for Windows PC, not for mac.
There is a possibility you are downloading 32 bit programs when your mac is a 64 bit. Many mac programs are set so they can run on either. |
*Heather* | May 10th, 2008 04:48 PM | I was trying to download a program that that had Microsoft office (Word and excel). When I changed computers all of my work got "changed" and the images I had within my word documents won't show up. I was told at the Mac store that i was supposed to get a free trial for something that would read word, etc but I can't for the life of me figure out what it was supposed to be.
As for the exe files - thanks for heads up. I am still new to this and didn't realize the difference. I was searching with OSX as the platform and just assumed anything that came up would work. |
Lord of the Rings | May 10th, 2008 07:26 PM | Best is to put OSX in the search title. ;) Unfortunately the osx search platform in the search type does not separate them as one would hope.
Mac files will be stored as .dmg, .zip, .img ... |
*Heather* | May 11th, 2008 06:26 AM | Thank you! |
rkrkjonas | May 20th, 2008 04:15 PM | i'm still confused. i downloaded a rar file but can't open it. are you saying that i need to change part of my computer to a windows computer to open it |

rkrkjonas | May 20th, 2008 04:23 PM | how can i tell what type of file to download? |

rkrkjonas | May 20th, 2008 04:46 PM | does it have to say osx in the title? |
rkrkjonas | May 20th, 2008 05:19 PM | i found a program with osx and zip in its label, but when i tried to run it, the setup said .exe is it just labeled wrong or is there another way around it? |
*Heather* | May 21st, 2008 05:46 AM | I had the same issue and just assumed that it was labeled wrong. |

alejandro | June 17th, 2008 10:51 PM | dos mode to open dos u need windows xp. check boot camp on mac programs then download windows. :PEACE: |
mikmusic | August 28th, 2009 11:25 PM | I just purchased a new imac and had them transfer all of my files from my old laptop to my new computer. I have been trying to download the OSX version of "SECOND LIFE" for days now and the same thing has been happening to me. It says that the program will not run in DOS mode. I know that I am downloading the correct file for a MAC... so does this mean that they transfered a file from my laptop that ran Windows?
This is all new to me, but this page has been very helpful. Knowing that I am not in this alone helps a lot as well.
I would appreciate any advice!
Thanks: ) |
Lord of the Rings | August 29th, 2009 04:48 AM | I've seen that type of problem before . Unfortunately not sure what causes it. 2nd life runs find on my system. Have you tried setting up a test user account: Setting up a Test Account in OSX (click on link).
Also like happened to me recently, open disk utility from the Utilities folder, see if that particular disk image is shown. If yes, choose the lower image & choose eject. Then choose the main disk image & choose mount. That should fix your problems with luck. :) |
