Lord of the Rings has a distinguished reputation

The OSX update you did may have fixed that issue, it may have included a java update or your clean install may have fixed a java issue.

Yes I use OSX, but haven't upgraded to Leopard yet .. still using Tiger 10.4.

The stars don't necesarily mean good or bad files .. just your chances of successfully downloading them.
