How Do I Become A Host? The Title says it all! How do I become a host? |
Just by having your computer connected to the Gnutella network, that makes you a host/peer. The files in your shared folder are available for others to d/load from you. Thanks for the Moobery! Truly, you are indeed a Grand Moobulous Paculous. I now pronounce you a member of my coolerati, to sit on my coolitariate! But now I have another question. How come when it asks if I want to add a host, it asks me for my number, which is many groups of numbers separated by dots and stuff? LISSA25:yahoo: |
That number is an ip address. If you know of good & reliable ultrapeers to connect through & know their ip's then you can add them in that window. An ip address is usually 4 blocks of numbers. eg: 106.201.84.31 ip addresses that start with 192 or 10 are always network numbers either from home or at work (& are not properly configured). They are impossible to use the LW direct connect function with. Not sure how they behave as ultrapeers, but safest not to choose one of those. |
Thank you oh Great One! But I am now wondering, why would you want to connect through an ultrapeer, when you can connect without one? Lissa25 |
You can only connect thru ultrapeers. If you turn on the connections window & have a look, all those connections you see are Ultrapeers. :) LW Basic connects thru 3 ultrapeers, LW Pro connects thru 5 UP's which allows a slightly improved search for the rarer to find files. If however you are running as a T3 connection you can connect to more. But as the topic of the thread suggests, you are wishing to host, which means sharing files. You can do that in a few ways. One is via partial file sharing, another is sharing finished downloads, another is via adding your own share folders. eg: some iTunes music folders. How to Share Folders (click on link) |
