new to limewire i aint got a clue what i'm doing!!! help pls!

Hi we JUST installed Limewire (granddaughter's advice) and I can get to the screen to Search (audio) but every search (by artist or song title) yields a big fat zero. I thought maybe it was our generation, so typed in Britney Spears (yuck ...) instead of Kingston Trio (ha ha, yep) and still got nothing. Was told by granddaughter that after downloading any song, we could move it to iTunes and from there burn a CD (to replace our worn out personal favorites collections (from LP's) last recorded in Cassette tapes. So far, however, we can't even FIND any of our songs, or ANY songs, for that matter. Advice? Thanks in advance from "Still Intelligent but apparently confused" ...:bangh:

Try Birdy's suggestions Here.

If LW's connected, try the fixes below. Must have Full Connection (Either Green or Blue Connection Bars).

1. In LW go tools > options > searching > basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it does, untick it > Apply > ok...see if that makes any difference.

2. Problems with the search

3. Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire

In case you're using Vista: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

This will change all of your settings within LW's options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things to the way you like them.

On Mac (Tiger), LimeWire's "Tools" only has "Statistics"

I can't get beyond the first part of your first instruction. VERY frustrated here ... What does that mean, green or blue bars? LW does seem to be open. And no I have not had any LW before. (Did have 30 years doing WP in legal firms, but as retired citizens we are both relatively new to the Mac - a coupla years, and just for the fun of it, no heavy duty use of any kind). aargh. :bangh: We are OSX version 10.4 Tiger (Mac).

Is my Firewall a problem?

A small blip tells me "Your computer is behind a firewall or router and cannot receive direct connections." [it asks me to enter the IP address of a friend we'd like to connect to, directly).

Hmm. I look forward to using a new smiley icon other than bashing my head against the brick wall ...

Thanks in advance for anybody's input. :bangh:

Well... OS wasn't specific in your First Post.
I am an XP user so not exactly sure where to go from here.
There are Mac users and Forums Here, so you might just wait it out until one of those guys respond. Sorry

Hi bearboat3. You posted in the right forum.

If your LimeWire is connected to other users (should do so automatically shortly after starting the program), some green bars should show in the bottom left of the LimeWire window. Until you have a good connection, your searches won't go anywhere. Even once connected, search results can be bizarre and unreliable.

Your best bet is to get the grandkids over and watch what they do. It's a whole new experience and language, and can be interesting,

By the way, LimeWire is just a tool that allows you to connect and share files with other users (probably about 5 million at any one time). However, the content is not controlled, and can at times be shocking or even illegally shared. So, don't wholly trust the results. Luckily you are on a Mac and so don't have the worries about viruses and stuff like that the the Windows users have to suffer.

If you want reliable and reputable material, the iTunes store is probably your best bet. Still, if you like exploring the unpredictable world that you can find with LimeWire, it can be fun learning to find material.

So, get some kids to come over and watch how they find stuff.

Cheers
