Did you run Apple Menu->Software Update? Looks like Apple has some fixes that should help.

d4 b4rn3y October 4th, 2008 09:14 AM

lime wire still not working

i tried the update but it still closed straight after i opened it

stief October 4th, 2008 09:34 AM

Did you run Software Update until there are no more updates to install? There were quite a few between 10.5.2 and 10.5.5

Once there are no more updates to install, restart your computer in Safe Boot Mode. Apple says "Hold down the Shift key immediately after the startup tone and release when you see the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear)." http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...db_strtup.html

d4 b4rn3y October 6th, 2008 09:44 AM

it works but...no sounf!!!!!

it works in safe mood but then i cant use the sound so if im using lime wire i cant watch movies or do anythingwih sound so is there any other peranent solution that lts me use sound

stief October 6th, 2008 03:45 PM

Just do a normal restart now--sound (and wireless, and probably some other extensions) will be back. Those extensions are not loaded in a Safe Boot.

Glad to hear java no longer crashes and LW can load. This means it should work normally in a regular boot too. If not, at least you have some idea what extra extensions are causing java problems.

Cheers

******* lime wire

it was working in normal mode but then it stoped working and would only work in safe mood agian

Lord of the Rings October 10th, 2008 12:26 PM

You could set up a Test account on the computer, see if LW works there. ;)
I wonder if the issue is graphic card (video card) drivers. That might be why the newer LW versions refuse to work on my mac intel. (LW 4.16 is the last version I can apparently use. Which has some bugs which keep appearing now & again.)

i have the same problem, please fix him

Arela November 22nd, 2008 02:45 PM

I have a problem with my limewire too. I have Mac OSX, 10.5.5. I tried installing limewire several times but as soon as it opens it closes! My software is up to date. I have been reading some topics relating to the same problem but I didnt fix my problem. And i went to console messages and relating to LM it says - invalid memory acces of location 00000000 eip=005b6ac8..I have enough disc available. I really know little about computers - still learning - and i hope u can help me. My brother has a PC and he has no problems with his LW.

Thank u

stief November 22nd, 2008 03:23 PM

Hi Arela

There is no solution I can find, only a workaround. Sometimes, creating a new user account and installing LimeWire there will work.

Until one of you with this 10.5.5 problem can find out which preference in the existing user account is stopping LW, creating a new OS X user account with all new preferences is the only workaround I know.

Sorry--LW works well for almost all other mac users. Wish the problem could be found more easily.

Arela November 23rd, 2008 05:25 AM

Thank u 4 ur reply.. So, no LW 4 me...if somebody fins the solution let me know.

bye

Re

Hmmmm my problem is the java in this account, i download frostwire and the same problem... Exist a method for Unistall or downgrade java and after install java?

stief November 27th, 2008 05:50 PM

hola

It is very difficult to uninstall java (have to reinstall system)

The java is good if it works in a new account. So, the problem is in some Preference in the home account that affects java.

Which one? Nobody yet knows. Does anybody know a way to compare the Home preferences with the preferences in a new account? perhaps a list of the differences will help find the problem files.

Even though I cannot run LW 4.18 in 'any' account, my LW 4.16 did stop working in one account, so as I explained to you privately, I copied across the LW & Java preferences from one account to the other (needed to change user permissions first so they were both read & write by the main account user), and alas LW 4.16 started working again. But surprising LW 4.18 has been dead in all of my accounts. But dead was how 4.16 was in the main account for a short time. I guess there's always the possibility of installing OSX on a different drive & see if it works in there. O.o

stief November 28th, 2008 03:41 AM

Yours is a very special case with quite a complex setup. Yes. it would be interesting to see if you can run 4.18 after a new system on a new drive.

It's done; installed OSX on a different partition. Just the basics of the installer with no updates (or any multimedia apps). Installed LW 4.18 Basic, it ran with no problems. Installed Pro, it also ran with no problems. Made a copy of both user & library preferences. Question is, is the problem with preferences or original OSX installation. I have reinstalled OSX on this mac several times since February so I somehow doubt that's the problem. Stief, perhaps you can advise which preferences might be the trouble-some one(s).

BTW I used the same download folder & it actually started downloading a file by itself. LW on this account is installed on a different drive. The one in the account/new installation was installed in the default app's folder. However, I did also try installing there on this & other accounts with no success with 4.18 so I'm not sure that is a problem or not. It should not be. Oh but I just realised my old incompletes didn't reload which is not super surprising considering I downgraded. np A file started downloading 5 secs after resuming them, & another 30 secs later. :)

stief December 1st, 2008 02:43 PM

Ah! If I understood you correctly, you have also confirmed that this problem is not with the LW prefs (I guess we knew that too when deleting the LW prefs folder didn't work earlier).

FWIW, installing OS X updates will be useful if one of those updates make your new LW cease to work. If all updates work correctly, then you'll know more about what files to compare with the non-working account. Right now it will be difficult to compare OS X prefs since there are so many OS X differences to compare.
