Default Duplicate MP3 Files Mac OSX

I have searched google, LW faq's & LW forums and I guess nobody else has my problem (concern). I have downloaded a lot of MP3's and my Mac stores them in two places. If I 'search' all documents, the majority are stored in music/itunes/itunes music/playlist name/album name/mp3name.mp3 and if there are 2 of the same name, the other is stored in limewire/saved/mp3name.mp3. Can I delete any of these? I would free up a lot of space (I think)

I'm a new Mac user and an old guy, so I'm clueless, but I did try before I bothered you guys.

Thanks,

Vince

Sorry I didn't see this post earlier.

I presume you have LW set to auto import music files into iTunes right? In that case, yes you will have duplicates. Problem is sometimes iTunes stops copying them across because LW is too busy or a long session can sometimes stop the process. So I prefer to double check files are in iTunes before deleting them from saved folder.

In my saved folder I arrange it by date. Likewise in iTunes I go to view menu, choose to show Date added. Then click or double-click on the Date Added column heading so it arranges most recent added to iTunes. I then take time to compare the files between iTunes & the Saved folder, cross referencing each file with the date added.

After that, you can delete the audio files from Saved folder that have obviously already been added to iTunes library.

Why do you sometimes get two copies in iTunes? In earlier versions, iTunes would not import a previously added file. Now it does. Many changes to iTunes I do not like. I do not understand the direction iTunes is taking; some of their changes have no practical logic to it.

(They destroyed the 'Keep iTunes Music Folder organised' option. Now if you change any details of any of the songs, it changes the file name & adds a number to it. I've had so many files with file names such as ... 03 03 03 03 03 (song name). Numbering of songs was previously an option, now it's automatic. Also, if you add details such as album artist (name of band's members), then iTunes takes the song out of the artist folder & places it into a new folder named with all the member's names. pfft! Also, iTunes tag desciptions do not seem to transfer to all other programs. They made some change there. They made many changes without telling people.)
