mac os 10.3.9 (Can I purchase Pro and run an older version of limewire?)
 

hello! I would like to purchase limewire pro, but I have a Apple G4, and am running OSX (10.3.9)...Is this a good idea, or not? Can I purchase Pro and run an older version of limewire? I really would appreciate any help.

With OSX 10.3 (Panther) you are restricted to LimeWire 4.12.15. Unfortunately LW 4.18 will not connect (upload to) with any version older than 4.14. However still plenty of old version users around. But eventually this number will decrease over time. The reason for Panther's limitation is the version of Java which is version 1.4.x. Tiger (OSX 10.4) at least uses Java 1.5. And Leopard (OSX 10.5) uses Java 1.5 & 1.6. The new LW 5 when it is finally released will be restricted to Java 1.6 users. Again, earlier users of OSX will be affected.

Use Basic in meantime perhaps. :) If it is possible, upgrade your OSX.
My old G4 (733 MHz) uses Tiger OSX 10.4 without issues. Another G4 here (400 MHz) also uses Tiger but is incredibly slow. lol :rofl:

Wow, thanks for the help! I was told (by Apple store employees) i could not run a newer version of OSX with a G4...my cpu is 867MHz...yours runs on 733MHz? Ill try to upgrade....
In the meantime, I still cannot connect w/ LW basic...I only get ONE green bar. And yes, I checked out the thread on "cant connect-one green bar". I do have a "firewall" icon at the bottom. I tried to change the firewall settings under "advance" but still nothing. I just changed the port settings. I also tried connect/disconnect...do I need to change firewall settings somewhere else? If so how?
Thank you So much for your help. Oh yeah, how can I upgrade to 10.4? I mean, can I still purchase it, even though its not the newest version?

OSX Firewall settings for Tiger/Leopard. Panther's firewall is almost identical to Tiger's firewall settings. ;)

The problem could be related to your modem/router .. not to know yet. Can try these options too: If LW Will Not Connect (click on the blue link) .. not sure if that link is in the thread you saw or not.

Need more details of your set up to help with connection issues.

BTW I'm not going to be around for a few weeks. I'll be away. :)

Just got LW Pro and seems I cant run it on my iBook G4 since I have OS 10.4.11...

Is there any chance I can make it work?

Your Pro link should also allow you to download version 4.18.8 Pro. That runs well on OS 10.4.11
