Message: "Limewire cannot play file XXX... It's been a while since I have used lime wire so please forgive me if this topic has been discussed. If so, could someone direct me to the appropriate thread? LOTR, you've been here in service to the LW community for a long time! I just want to say thank you for your tireless efforts!!!!! ~~~~ The Problem: Every file I download using LW will not open. I get the message: Limewire canot play the file blah/blah/blah . There is an unkown error with the (audio) file. This message comes up for any audio file I look at. I cannot play the file with the LW preview player and the file does not show up in my itunes like it used to. Any help or links to further discussions on this topic would be greatly appreciated. I'm running LW 4.10.9 pro on a G5 iMac OSX v.10.5.6 that has itunes 8.0.2 (but I cant play the audio file with the LW player anyway) Thanks for any assistance! McH |
Sorry for slow response, I've been away. Need to make sure the files you are downloading are not some kind of spammed file. Check the file sizes ... Virus thread: Typical virus spam file sizes - Make a note of them (click on blue link to see). Also, check this one mp3 Bit-Rates Versus File Sizes (click on link). Keep in mind iTunes cannot play all music formats such as mp3pro, ogg vorbis & some others. Get a back up player to double-check those files: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/291443-post3.html such as with ToolPlayer. ;) |
Thanks for the reply LOTR! Very helpful advice and links. :Smilywais: |
Oh something else comes to mind. Some people without thinking share music they purchased over the internet which of course has DRM. Such files can only be played by the purchaser & should not be shared. |
hello LOTR i can see you would be the man who can help me! i can dowload anything and i floowed your advice regarding the dowloadable files. when it has finished it i got the message there is a skript error and the IE.try to download the right to play the song! i do not understand! many thanks cumicecil |
hmm sounds like a suspect file to me. Often when a file claims such they direct you to a site which is a phisher site ... or directs you to a site to download a codec which is in reality a virus. Personally I'd toss it. (BTW I'm not a guy but I'm don't care either way. lol :D) |
sorry i have to appologies! any way! unfortunately it is happens at every each file! if you have any idea then please let me know! many thanks |
Do you know the spam sizes well? Did you look at the links above? 'Very important' !!! Try a separate player. I'd suggest ToolPlayer. It's small & basic in external design but can play a wide range of audio formats; Alternate Audio Players & support plug-ins |
hello there, i am just studing these things, yes i checked them with AVG and it said they are virus, and the sizes are the same what you told in the link above 3462! i was surprised when i was dowloading them and i got the sessage i have the same alrady in the folder! i am trying to find a normal file to try it is woriking or not! many thanks |
