LimeWire Pro 5/Mac G5 won't work! Hello All, I have a Mac G5, OSX 10.5.6 with 4GB RAM and 2-1TB Hard Drives. I have bought the new LimeWire Pro 5. When I open it I only get a window that states "needs Java 1.6" and will not open. I have Java 2 Any ideas out there as to what is going on? Thanks |
The new LW 5 Beta uses Java 6 (1.6) which is 64-bit. LW 5 thus will only run on computers that use 64-bit technology. For macs, that means the newer intel macs. Go to Software update under the apple menu very top left of screen. See if there are any updates you need. After updating, if Java 6 is not on your system, you do not have a 64-bit machine. You can confirm this by going to Utilities folder, open the Java Preferences, check which versions of Java are available. If Java 6 (1.6) is not listed, then you are stuck with LW 4.18 to use. Setting up Java for Leopard Unfortunately, they have not yet updated the Pro Download page to give option for non-intel users. Within days this oversight should be fixed. Then click on the 'Older Versions' link at the left side & you should see 4.18 option available for OSX 10.4 & 10.5 users. :) * Just realised you are using a G5. G5's were not intel machines which means you will not be able to use either Java 1.6 or LW 5 beta. |
Well, that sucks really bad. I just bought Limewire Pro for my G5. |
You can still use LW 4.18 Pro for your G5. :) See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...0-5-later.html for where to get it. ;) |
